I did some measurements on power consumption using my UPS display.
- Windows7x64 / / HD5870 (idle) / Q6600 @ 3.15 / 680i / 8G DDR2-800 / Raptor150 + CaviarSE500
Running SMP client: 240W - 5800 PPD
0.24KWh * $0.10KW/h = $0.024/ Hour = $0.576 / Day = $210.24/ Year
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Windows7x86 / GTS250 / Athlon II X2 245 @ 3.5 / GA-MA785GM-US2H / 2G DDR2-800 / Caviar250
Running SMP and GPU Client: 160W - 6700 PPD
0.16KWh * $0.10KW/h = $0.016/Hour = $0.38 / Day = $140.16
Total : $350.40/y for total of 4,562,500 Points or 13,020 points per dollar of electricity.
Hope this help folks make a educated commitment.
-------------------------------------- EDIT -------------------------------------------
The above is only an aproximation of my folding costs.
I do not run the Q6600 SMP client 24/7 but only 24/2, This is because the power is 1/2 price on weekends.
Also the X2 245/ GTS 250 SMP\GPU client while running 24/7, does not always consume power at $0.10/KWh. it is 1/2 price weekend and evenings.
