Folding on Laptops?

I remember back when I was running the distributed.net client, there was an option to have it only run when on AC power. Is there anything like that for F@H? There are a few laptops I can put this on but it's not worth the decrease in battery life if it runs all the time.

To have the program stop folding when on battery power; Seems like a simple enough thing, right?

I just turn it off when I unplug...

Yeah, i'm thinking more along the line of borgs though, as in no action necessary on their part.

Set it up as a scheduled task... in the properties of the task it has a check box that say "turn off it using battery" or something close to that.... (been awhile since I've looked at that....) should be what you need? :D

I have my laptops set up that way, but I had to disable the task because the stupid laptop fans were causing complaints. One smart guy even told me that something was using 99% of his processor time and making his fan run on high all the time. A lot of P4 laptops have hefty fans, so if you set them up at the office this way, be prepared to "fix" the noise problem by shutting down folding. :(

What if you set the FAH client to run at a reduced percentage, say 50%?

Those laptops would only be doing half the work but they'd be returning results, and maybe the fans wouldn't come on as much. Experiment. Then let the rest of us know how it went.

I don't run F@H anymore, but UD will snooze untill you plug the AC back in.
My cellery laptop gets toasty and the fan runs full tilt while UDing, but I was playing with a 1.6 pentium M the other day. The fan would cycle for about 10 sec every few min when under full load from UD. Those crazy centrino's make like no heat. I'd borg those if you can :->
As for DTR P4 laptops.. I'd reccomend NOT borging those. My dad has a HP one, and that's like having a fusion reactor in your lap, and that's while idle. He has a piece of wood used to support the laptop and give it good air flow, as well as insulate your legs.
