Ok, so I started folding along time ago and only lasted a week(short attention span). But I have decided to get back into the act, hopefully for longer this time. Well for right now I only have a gpu2 client going but will bringing up more clients in the coming weeks.

1st Q. I installed the client and have fahmon going. I am using a p-6831fx with a 8800m gts and its only getting 2100ppd. Is that normal for this sort of chip?

2nd Q. This is the kicker. How do I sign up on our [H] folding website? Do I have to wait until a WU has been uploaded?

Im sure I will have more questions as i progress down the folding road.....

The 8800M GTS has only 64 shaders, so that sounds about right.

You do need to wait until a workunit has been uploaded and counted by the stats servers (they update once every three hours).
 
I was folding on a 8800GTX mobile for a little while and it got 2000-2500 PPD.


 
Thanks for the confirmation SatTech! I do have one more question.

How do I accurately monitor my ppd on a ati gpu2 client? Where do I tell Fahmon to look is my real question. As I have tried the Folding@homeGPU2 client directory but all I get is a N/A. Thanks in advance!
 
There are two dir

One is in program files (not the one)
The other is under: C:\Users\Kendrak\AppData\Roaming\Folding@home-gpu

Replace my name for you U/N on you computer. That is where you want to point FAHMon

AppData is a hidden dir so you might have to type it in.
 
Another stupid question. I just bought 2 8800gs's from yonex. I want to put one in my htpc to fold with 24/7. It currently has a zotac mini-itx with an integrated 9300 for video and a x16 express slot. Is it possible to use the integrated 9300 for normal use, and then create a vm session that will take advantage of the 8800gs? Sorry if this is a stupid question :(
 
no there isnt.. when you put the 8800gs in it will disable the 9300 IGP.. even hybrid SLI doesnt allow that..

edit* its all bios controlled so there is no way to work around it.. (figured id add this since im sure some one would ask..)

No such thing as stupid questions when it comes to folding.

We are happy share info with you to save you time, frustration, and fried hardware. It's all in an effort to get you pushing as many ppd as possible for the team and to find a cure.

Just make sure you find happy homes for those cards ;)
 
And all the help is appreciated! If I cant figure out the htpc then I will just install them in my school rig so they will have a home!

edit- Another Q. I might end up placing both of these cards on my ep45. Do I need to place them in SLI to run two GPU2 clients?

Ok, I setup my vmware notfred instances and am having trouble monitoring them. Fahmon just says N/A and Fahspy says client stopped, Status = no access. Any ideas? I followed the monitoring directions in the guide

edit - nvm. wow im stupid, lol. I had an extra backslash in the file location :(

Ok, so im using my main school rig as my folding rig. Im running two notfred vmware sessions on my q9550. Well I have to take the unit to and from school four nights a week. This obviously changes the ip address which subsiquently looses all work that I had done on the previous ip. Is there a way to circumven this? Im thinking that I just wont start up the vmware sessions while im at school but i would like to use that time if i can.

Why would having a different IP address cause you to lose the work? The IP address shouldn't make a difference; the VM should save its progress whenever it's shut down properly.
