Folding in DOS?

Ok... So, I have this 900 MHz P3 sitting here, but I can only run DOS on it (for testing stuff here at work... don't ask), and I can't install windows or anything on it.

So, can anyone think of a way I might be able to fold on this guy?

Thanks. :)

You can't dual boot with another OS? Or are not allowed?

No, I can't do dual boot. Don't have access to put another OS on there or anything. And the autoexec is set to mount all kinds of crap off of the network too. I'm just trying to think of some way I can utilize this cpu thats just sitting here... Not sure I'm going to be able to though, without having access to put an operating system on there.

And no, the console doesn't work because DOS is in 16-bit mode, and FAH is a 32 bit applications. :(

Anyone know if there is some way to boot into a 32 bit environment off of a floppy? Or even a CD-Rom? Because I can put the console on the hard drive, I just can't run it in DOS.

Nope. The console just looks like DOS, but it's not as you found out. Throw Win95/98 on another partition and dual boot that sucker.

Oops, I just remembered the Linux setup that Arkaine23 posts about every now and then here. It runs off of a CD-ROM, so that would work just fine for what you're trying to do. It's called Overclockix, so you might want to search the forum for that and see how it works for you.

Wow, what an *excellent* find. I'll try putting that on a CD at home tonight, and running it tommorow. :)

Hopefully that will work...

Thanks!

You can even use the persistent home feature to save a small image of the settings and folding directory, to be reloaded anytime you reboot. So in that way, you can return to the WU you left off on rather than start over from scratch anytime you have to boot into DOS for awhile.

Uploading a bugfix release.... now....

Arkaine, you may be folding for the wrong team... but we love ya' all the same! :D

[H] are certainly not the only ones to have given such sentiments, and I appreciate them. I'm not just here or there, but all over the intarweb when it comes to spreading the cause of folding@home. :)
