A gentleman over at Anand is taking the time to benchmark the AMD64 platform and see how it benefits from ram bandwith. 266mhz through 600mhz. I suggested a folding benchmark to see if pricey ram is worth the money for folders. Is there any easy, quick means of running a benchmark? I know seti has a "benchmarking" work unit, does folding have such a thing?

There is no offical benchmarking work unit.

The easiest way to do it would be to wait untill you get a new protien.
The stop folding andsave the work unit folder in a temp directory.
Re-start and find out how long it takes to fold 10 frames.
Stop and change settings.
Copy the work unit from the temp back to the FAH directory.
Run another 10 frames.
Etc, etc.

You may also want to run it on each speed of protien.
The 57 point p12** fold slow on my AMD boxen at only around 1.7 Point per Hour per Ghz.
While some others will fold at around 2.3 PpHpG.
The big packet protiens fold at over 4 PpHpG but you get bonus points for them.

Luck........ :D

/agree with tigerbiten

It would also be interesting to get a gromacs, a tinker, and an amber to compare. If you need sample WUs, I can get them to you; I've got a big amber and a few Gromacses on the farm right now.
