I write a column in the campus newspaper called Haiku d’état, a series of 9 Haiku's about a specific topic; usually about stupid things like pr0n, or specific campus stuff. This time I'm writing to get people to join FAH.

The format is this: 9 haikus, 3 columns with 3 haikus each, all following the same subtheme (first three about pr0n, next three about how I love pr0n, next three about how I go to therapy because of pr0n addiction, for example). Tell me what you think:

Haiku d’état

For most of the day
Computers sit there, idle
Waiting for new tasks

Typing, MP3s
Even when downloading pr0n
Patiently, they wait

And yet, every day
Thousands die from cancer, AIDS
People close to you

You think “Why the waste?
Can’t my computer help them?
Shed light on a cure?”

Many diseases
Occur when healthy proteins
Take on the wrong shape

A program exists
Pondering how proteins “fold”
A complex problem

Called Folding@Home
Wasted CPU cycles
Spent looking for cures

No cures tomorrow
But every minute it folds
We’re getting closer

Please: Fold for a Cure
Your computer is unchanged
And you will save lives

Any comments/changes are appreciated. I try to sway away from taking a 17 syllable sentence and splitting it into 3 lines, but sometimes it has to be done that way. Preferably, each line is clever enough to exist on its own.

Tell me what you think!

I think you should post it in the right thread.

As a poet, you have a bit of competition in the f@h arena. ;)

Welcome to the [H]orde...you are a [H]ordling, right?

Well, since I'm asking for feedback, not submitting, I thought it apropriate

I was, but now that I'm at school and the goal is to get every computer on campus to fold, I created and fold for the StonyBrookMathClub (I'm President of it).

This is to get people to see that we're active, and to easily tell how much we've completed. Also, if we're ultra active (I'm planning to poster campus), then the computer centers will be more willing to sign up (which is infinitely awesome).

As long as we're folding, and not on team #32, then everything is OK by me :p :p :D :D

RE: not submitting
So even your words aren't [H]ard? Put it where it belongs, folder, we're all on the same team.

RE: Not folding for team 33:
see above.

RE: Haiku
Well done.
As you said "Sometimes it has to be done that way."
We must make allowances for being topical.
