I've been lurking though [H]ard OCP for years, and finally decided to put all that unproductive sleeping time to helping the folding@home thing. I dont really know what it is all about, but will be spending some good time reading these forums to catch up to speed.
I am running a P4 OC'd to 2.8 Ghz with 1 Gig of Ram. Hope it helps. :)

Welcome to the [H]orde. Every bit helps. If you have any questions all you have to do is ask. Once you put in your first unit, you can get your cool [H]s.

We're all here to help... let us know if you have any questions...
and...

Welcome to the Team!!

Keep on Folding!!

Welcome! Hug a moose, make yourself at home and all that good stuff! Don't forget to add your GHz to the "D to ....." thread. :D

I do have one question, How intensive is this program? Will it scale back if I have other programs running? I ask because I want to sneak it onto my work comp, which is running 3Ghz and 1 Gig Rambus. Also, can I get my "points" off of my work comp and combine em with my home comp?

As to the hug a moose, She's moving out and we aren't on huggin terms :D

F@H only uses unused cycles, so when other apps require CPU time it backs off and gives the other programs precident. As for getting your points together, just enter your username and team exactly the same as you did on your home comp and you'll be in good shape.

Using your work PC is all well and good, but you should get permission to do so... The last thing we need/want is bad publicity for the team/Stanford/etc...

Steve,

As long as you have enough memory on the system it really doesn't interfere. It gives up it's cycles easily, but hangs on to memory. Depind on how you configure the FAH program and what Work Unit you get, the program is going to eat up 30-300 Megabytes of system memory.

I downloaded the UD client, is that different? Got it up and running on two comps. is there a different program I should be running to fold at home?

Yes, UD is different. Folding@home is located at folding.stanford.edu.

However, UD is also a [H]orde production. You're welcome to keep running that, but the Folding@Home team is trying to take back the #1 spot, so we'd appreciate the help.

Either one. They both have similarities. You could run both and figure out which you like most or continue to support both. Most of us are stat whores though so we only fold for one team.

actually. (funny how i always run the new guys threads off topic... :p )
its been a really bad day.
but im makin it.

stiff drinks tonight at my place.. byob though..

Well, I was gonna run the folding@home on my work computer and UD on my home comp, but apparently the folding@home, knew I wasn't at home ;) and it locked up my computer. I had to re-boot in safe mode to uninstall it. So I am thinking of trying the UD at work and the f@h at my actual home. Or maybe I'll go stat whore and put UD on both.

Great info in the forums guys, thanks a bunch. Gonna be reading for quite a while.
