alright im getting around 1000 and im looking to buy a foldingfarm i was thinking some chep cpu's and cheep mobos ram and power so what exaxt parts would you sugjest i want atlest 5 layers

X2 5 of those makes 10 clients... It might cost more but factor in price of e and only getting 1 motherboard and psu per chip i think it is a better price in the long run

edit: k i didn't see the 1000 :|

I think 5 would be a little too expensive Duster. X2s are about $270 each and he only has $1000. michaelpi would only need to consider the price of procs, mobos, and power supplys and ram, since he can install foldix or foldserver large hard drives aren't need. With foldserver only 1 harddrive would be needed.

2 X2s for $540
2 mobos for $200
2 psu for $100
2 x 2x512mb ram for $160.
Leaves 40 for cases and or better mobos. [H]ard people wouldn't use cases :D

That is 4 clients. You could OC the X2s to 2.5ghz and be good. Someone chime in with the ppd michaelpi could expect.

yeah i missed the 1000 part and x2's are about 313 at the egg

ya well im building this folding farm box that can hold right now 20 computers i would like to get atlest 7 in there and i will be ocing them a lot :)

So these can be naked? If so, I can do:

1x 820
1x 830
2x Mobo with Vid and network
2x 1GB DDR2 memory (each board gets 2x512 sticks)
2x 400W PS

= $800

This setup should easily be a 1000+ PPD setup. Would leave you with $200 bucks to use on that folding farm box.

This is also dependant on using fold server, or getting crapper drives with foldix on them.

cheap cpu's and cheap mobos ram and power

You may want to take a look here... With alot of help from the guys here, I've set up a page to see basically what the cheapest recommended parts would be...

My advice would be to mix it up a bit... get a little intel, and little AMD...

Keep on Folding!! For the [H]orde!!
