Alright im out of ideas. Ill stop to noobish levels and ask for help

First of all, the non-graphical client runs fine. When i launch the graphical version my whole machine locks up for about 5 seconds, then the screen goes blank. This happens about 90% of the time, the other 10% it works fine.

After the screen blanks out one of two things happens. First scenario everything stays locked up, i have to reboot and try again. 2nd scenario i wait about 10-15 seconds and then my screen comes back up and i get an error message from ati control panel saying that the video card was reset to defaults after becoming unstable. Same error message as if i clock my card way too high and try to run a game, but it happenes even at stock voltage.

I have tried reinstalling folding, reinstalling video drivers, trying different versions of video drivers, nothing helps.

what is going on?

I am not sure about your computer but I had something sort of similiar(well not really) happen to me running the graphical. Mine would straight up black screen after running for a while. Turns out the GeForce 3 had bite the dust. Have you tried swapping in a different card?

the video card is a 9600 pro and its only about 10 months old. i dont have any problems in any games or benchmarks or anything else. proc is a xp-m 2500 @ 2.4 prime stable.

i actually have a 9800 pro on its way right now so hopefully that will fix the problem, but its still always good to know what the problem is either way

So the problem is...? Run the text-based one as a service, then fire up EM3 and you're good to go.

There have been problems with running the graphical version and vid card drivers. You could try to update the vid card drivers if they aren't the newest. There is a chance that could solve the problem. My preferred solution is use the console version with EMIII as was already mentioned. I don't even know what the graphical version looks like because I have never used it.

You are not running both the console and the graphical, right?
You can only run one, those 2 will conflict with each other. It is only supposed to allow one instance of fah at a time .....but.
Not sure if that is what you have going on...just a thought!
Good luck!

I had the same problem with the graphcial client on my dads PC. When I opened up the client to look at the pretty folding ball thingys the monitor would totally lose its signal, very annoying. Not sure if I'll re-install folding as my dad is convinced his PC can be infiltrated and he doesn't want to leave it on all the time

i have heard that using the spacefill model instead of ball and stick seems to stop the crashing so you might try that. But you lose CPU cycles to doing it.
