I guess the folding gods were nice to me this Christmas .... :)

I was planning on upgradting my Dell Vostro 1500 Laptop.

I had already purchased a 320GB 720rpm drive to replace the factory 160GB 5400rpm drive.
I had also gotten a 8600M GT to replace the factory 8400m GS so I could game better.

A couple of weeks ago, I had told my mother I was upgrading my laptop.
See asked if I need anything for christmas to upgrade it with ...

I told her not really, but I might want to upgrade the CPU (Intel T5270 1.4Ghz (2MB Cache) sometime in the future.

As I opened my gifts, I started to see a blue box and that Intel Logo.
She has got me a T9300 2.5Ghz 45mn laptop cpu .....
How the heck she knew what to get was beyond me ...
I assume she asked the IT guys at work what CPU I could use in this laptop.
I was so shocked .... and those CPU are not cheap .....

As I opened my second gift from my fiancé, it was a red box with the G-Skill logo.
She had gotten me a 4GB Ram Kit for my laptop .....

I still don't know how they planed that all out .. but it was really awesome ....

So now I have a little upgrade project to do on my Vostro ....

That CPU should fold really well with Vmware ....

lol you got pwned by your own family.. but then again so did I..

Now see, if I'd have mentioned any PC hardware upgrades to most of my family, I'd have gotten random crap that wouldn't fit in anywhere. I've basically gone to default Newegg/Cash answer the past couple of years. You've got a good family there :p

Hey EA that sounds terrific
See, our family members aren't as lacking in IT knowledge as we think, plus they obviously know who to ask for things concerning IT ;)
I don't know much about laptops, but it sounds like you came pretty close to getting a new laptop. :D

Folding and WCGing for a CURE

Well, I got all my new parts installed and fired up vmware using "notfred" folding distro.

Getting about 2400-2500 PPD on the A2 core.

I was really shocked at the great performance.

Cpu is running at 58C at 100% load on both cores using zalman laptop cooler.

Maxes out at 70C without cooler running Prime95 so not too bad there for a laptop.

Wish there was an easier way to control the system fan on this dell.
Only method i found so far required an unsigned driver in Vista x64, so I might have to start going the F8 on boot method again if I plan to run without the zalman cooler.

Christmas was very good to me. With wife's approval bought my own present and I must say it is one sweet rig. Not to rival some of the best, but I sure do like it.

-CM Stacker 830 Nvidia Edition. Very nice case. I love the black and green theme plus there is plenty of clearance between the hard drives and video cards. 4 120mm fans. $59 on Black Friday.

-EVGA FTW Mobo Nvidia 780 w/3 SLI slots. Booted first time. Zero problems.

-2x 9800GT OC from BFG. Waiting on the 3rd card to arrive. Used BFG trade in to convert an old 6800GT and $50 for 3rd card.

-Q6600 at 2.6Ghz w/Artic Freezer 7 Pro
-4GB Mushkin DDR2 800
-1TB WD HDD Green Edition (way bigger than necessary, I know)
-Corsair 750TX PSU
-LG DVD-R
-Vista64
-24" Acer Monitor (my second Acer and both are stunning)
-APC 750 UPS

With the 3rd card, this box will do 15K-20K ppd which should put my total ppd up around 33K. A pair of the new GTX 295's sounds mighty delicious but I might need that money just to pay the electric bill for what I have now. It's a marathon not a sprint:D.

I gots me a ASUS Rampage Formula and a Corsair TX750 (currently on a UPS truck somewhere between Tennesee and LA)

Finally, for that C2Q come tax return time :)
Incremental hardware updates are a pain, but this one is going smooth, especially updating a 4 yr old computer.

The ShamWOW is nothing. You need to get a Slap Chop and stop having boring tuna and stop having a boring life.

The SlapChop was awesome but when I saw the Graty I had to call and order. Fortunately, my wife pulled my cell phone away and hung up before they got my credit card number.;)

Hey Evil ---

Nice family you have! What a bunch of geeks, to boot!

Girls buying stuff like CPUs for a dude? And it fits? What kind of alternate universe do you live in?

Well not exactly a Christmas gift but last night I finished upgrading my old dual opteron 275 box to dual xeon e5420's. Quite a nice ppd boost from 2900ppd to 9000ppd.
