Okay, so i've got a p4 3.2ghz with HT technology.. running F@H for the [H] of course and when i take a look at cpu % its always using 50%...

so, for whenever im not using the computer how would I use the other 50%? to get more out of it? Run it twice? any better ways?

With one instance you are actually using 100% of your CPU, it just doesn’t read that way.

You can run 2 clients just as you would on a dual CPU machine and gain about 15% or so points wise, but you will complete fewer work units overall.

I switched my one Intel HT machine to big units so I only run one client now on that machine.

you must download 2 clients and install them in seperate directorys ( fold1) and ( fold2 ) is what i use.

is it really worth the extra 15%? Or would I be better off just running 1 24/7 and doing other stuff while i do that...

cause I run half-life 2 while folding and it runs perfectly fine... then i stop folding, run half-life 2 and I get the exact same fps.. doesn't slow it down at all?

The folding program uses SPARE cpu cycles. It will back off as much as needed for you to run your game! :D That is why every one should be running this program...(under: Mayhem33 Team: 33) you see!! :p There has been many a debate about how many instances to run, in the end this is a personal decision and you should do what you think is best for you. ;)

I should probably also mention I set it to 'use slight higher processing preferences' or whatever it was.. if that even makes much of a difference.. doesn't seem like it does...

I would uncheck that box, it tells you to use that if you are running another DC program like seti@home. The 2 will have to compete for cpu time and f@h gives way and only seti will get the time. That box is supposed to help them get along better. I have played with that setting befor while only running f@h and it did nothing to speed it up, just caused problems with other things I was trying to run. There have been updates to the f@h version since I messed with that box but you cannot get more than 100% cpu time out of your box! :D

HT is awsome... i run two 600 points on my 3.75 ghz p4 they finished every 2-3 days so thats 2400 points a week!

Yea, i have a P4 2.8GHz with HT on.

Before, the graphical client would run both "virtual" CPU's at 50% each. I was getting around 102 points per day.

Now im running two consle applications, and both "virtual" CPU's are at 100%. Doing big units, like the 600 point ones, im getting around 265 points per day. Factoring in the diffrent cores... tinker vs gromacs, i guess that comes up to about a 15% increase.

Honestly, how can you say no to a 15% increase for free? Using just one client with HT on is in a way, like only use 87% CPU.

If you need the specifics on how to get 2 consel versions going at once, check this thread http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=853694

And if you want a graphical look with estimated times and other calculations for the consle versions, check out Electron Microscope III http://home.comcast.net/~wxdude1/emsite/em3.html
