Nothing to worry about. On my second loop I use Swiftech's HydrX green additive and there was major foam. I wasn't used to that as I've always used Pentosin which produced little to no foam. After about 30 minutes, it went away.
If the foam doesn't go away, then you're sucking in air somewhere. Make sure your connections are all tight. The res should be at least 3/4 full. Water comes in to the res on top, and leaves on the bottom (assuming it's set right side up)
I drained it. Checked all fittings & the pump itself, all tight, no leaks.
The level in the res is just above the Swiftech logo. Res is also attached to the side of the rom cage.
I had this same issue in my cpu loop this time around, using Fesser uv red coolant. When you power the pc down do you get more concentraded air bubbles in your loop? Mine did. I would get some big bubbles that would collect usually to the highest point in the loop. What you have to do is when it is off manuver your pc around so that that bubble get to the res (mine is a little different because my cpu loop uses the res/rad combo). But, this fixed it for me. Was kind of annoying too because the foamy loop was pink and the other loop was dark red how its supposed to be ^_^;
K1tty, done the moving around part a few times over now. Got all the foam to the res, sucked out the foam with a vac & started it up again only to have it foamy again.
There are no water leaks at all anywhere.
If there was an air leak, wouldn't water also come out of the same location??
ANY concentration of anti-freeze will foam. That's a GUARANTEE!
The best way to get rid of it, is to leave it off for 24 hours, and most of the tiny micro-bubbles will coalesce into one or two large bubbles. Then, move the case around (literally pick it up) so the air gets stuck in the res, and refill. Repeat if necessary.
My loop takes a good 4 hours to fill... I'm doing it right now, actually. Shit sucks.
what is your coolant consisted of? antifreeze/water? what is the ratio? Brands sometimes help also as some have anti-foaming and some don't.
Do you have a variable pump?
If so what I had to do to prevent this was turn the pump on low until the bubbles are gone then turn the pump up slowly maybe 1 notch at a time. If you don't have a pump you can change the speed on. Do the quick on/off trick, just make sure NO air gets into the pump. Of course all this is null and void if you have some crap in your loop.
And lastly when you say foam do you mean the shit you see when you go to the beach and see the foam sometimes ont he edge of the water or are we taking it just looks like your coolant is turning lighter cooler with a high concentration of bubbles. Pics would be best bet at this point.
I have resolved the foam issue.
Since I didn't mount the hardware before doing a leak test, the hose from the block to the res wasn't fairly straight. I had it all laying on the floor beside the case last night & turned it on. No foam.
Go figure.
videogamer, to answer your questions, I use a swiftech pump, not variable & have been doing the on/off bit.
For the mix, I had a 4L jug of distilled water, dumped 400ml & added a full bottle of Pentosin G11 with a few drops of biocide.
