Hello [H]ard SFF friends!

I'm going to be flying to QuakeCon this year, and don't trust the baggage handlers with my beloved Ncase, so I'm planning on bringing it as my carry on.

The things I'm wondering about (and hope someone has experience with) is what the TSA is going to want me to do involving the computer. I know sometimes (always?) they require you to power on laptop and iPads and the like, but what about a desktop PC?

I've got plans to be able to fit it under-seat, so there's a near-zero chance that they'll be able to force me to gate check it because of size.

Thanks guys and gals! :)

Hello.

I have flown from Europe to South America with my Silverstone FT03 mini in a Silverstone carrying case as a luggage before. I had no problems at all. They just kinda asked me to scan it with some sort of instrument just because it wasn't an usual object found in most people's luggage.

I do know that the security in flights in the US tends to be much more strict than most places, but I hope you may travel your pc with ease. :))

BTW, I don't think you are allowed to actually travel with a baggage under your seat (or can you? I'm no so sure about this one). In my flight I placed it in those designated slosts for luggage on the top of the seats.

I used to fly with a computer in a Bitfenix Prodigy all the time. This was about two years ago, going through large airports on the west coast of the US.

I never once had any issues whatsoever; usually all they did was take what seemed to be a cotton swab, wiped it along one seam of the computer, and put it in a spectrometer, looking for bomb residue.

Sounds good, and about what I was expecting.

I don't mind being pulled aside for extra checks, But I do mind checking my PC. :)

I fly internationally all the time and i bring my Silverstone SG05 with me all the time and it's never been a problem. It fits in my backpack with keyboard, mouse and everything i need.

Always traveling with my PC from Europe to south America and it's like any other electronic device. Don't know if in the US is the same.

The cases were SG09 and SG05 from Silverstone.

I even travel with my Acer FT200HQL monitor too.

It's the same in the US. I mainly go from Europe to the states and its never been a problem.

you'll be fine, i've flown with much bigger than an ncase... had a cooler master elite 341 with handle and straps back in the day...

was standing in line hauling it once and a business guy looks over at me and says "you know, most people just get laptops..." :-D

I was planning to fly with a jonsbo u3 to England in a small backpack thing.I supose its not a problem too right? One thing i dont know is do the guys at airports have the autority to make copy of your hdds?Ive read long ago that in the US there was a law for something like this but not sure if it was approved.

Does airport security have access to your PC?
I mean, if I were to travel to US for example, will they ask me turn my PC on and look at my stuff? What if I had an external HDD, would they check that too?
Kind of seems like an invasion of privacy, don't you think?

I've flown with PCs in checked bags and in carry-on bags. Never had an issue.

Parts? My checked bags tend to collect the TSA ""notice of baggage inspection" slips. Parts in carry-ons, I've had opened and questioned.

I usually carry HDDs (internal and external) as carry-on so I am assured that they are handled gently. I have never been asked to power them on or show the data on them.

I've only ever had two problems.

1) Had a huge DTR laptop, Clevo M980NU (which I still have, anyone want to buy? make offer), that they asked me to power on. Soon as it started to boot Windows, they lost interest in it and let me continue.

2) My RJ45 crimper was confiscated. TSA agent got supervisor and they measured it - just over whatever arbitrary limit, and gave me option of exiting security, checking my bag, coming back through security, or of just surrendering it for disposal.
