I'm flying to California at the end of the month, and from there to Vegas a few days later for Def Con. I'd like to bring my laptop. I've never flown with one before, has anyone ever had a problem bringing one carry-on?

No, only issues I've had is the security wanting to boot it up to make sure it is a notebook then wanting to play a game. Just make sure your notebooks bag is small enough to be a carryon.

Yeah my response is the same as above. ^^ The only problem I have is taking all of my crap (laptop, ipod, headphones, power supply, etc.) out of the bag at the checkpoint. Just have to factor that in with all the other stuff you have to take off like shoes, belt, wallet, keys, change, left testicle, etc. :D

I have never had a problem with taking my laptop onboard.
Only thing (when I flew) was that when you put in threw the scanner he has to have its own bucker for some reason. I did not talk to the guy about cause it was about 7am and I did not care.

Good to know. My laptop bag is small, length and width is about the same as my 14" laptop, and no more than three inches thick, so I'm not too concerned about that.

Thanks guys.

Now I just need to figure out which live CD I want to use while at def con. Talk about a hostile network ;)

You are doing more than you have to. Most often the only thing you have to take off is shoes and then let the laptop travel through the machine separately. Unless you have change in your wallet, don't worry about it. Don't remove anything else or take anything else out unless they tell you to. This will save you and everyone else some time. ;)
