Hello, I'm building a new PC and having problems with the AGP voltage readings. I have the voltage set to 1.55 in the BIOS, but the readings on the PC Health screen in the BIOS show the AGP voltage wildly fluctuating up and down from 1.55 to 2.04 volts. I understand that this is not normal and will damage my card? I have RMA'd the motherboard and the replacement did the same thing. I RMA'd the video card and the replacemnt did the same thing. I did have this system running for a couple of days and then my ABIT EQ (a bios monitoring program) sounded the alarm for high AGP voltage.
I took the BIOS readings with just the minimal componets installed to get it to boot, i.e CPU, CPU cooler, one stick memory and the video card. I also tried several different power leads from the PSU to the video card. The problem occured with 2 different BIOS versions. My Antec PSU should have plenty of power for this system, unless it is defective. I get a single normal beep at POST.
The other readings in the PC Health bios section,
ATX 3.3v at 3.28
ATX 5v at 4.97v
ATX 12v at 12.08 to 12.16
CPU core 1.64 to 1.68
DDR 2.68 to 2.70
Battery 2.96
Standby5v 4.89
My system at testing,
AMD athlon XP 3000+ barton core 333fsb
Abit KV7 socket A motherboard
Antec Smartpower 2.0 450 watt PSU
Chaintech (model SA6600G) NVidia GeForce 6600gt AGP video card
pqi DDR-400 PC3200 512mb
So my questions are, The AGP voltage fluctuating like that is not normal right? And what could be causing it and how do I fix it?
Thanks.
