Floppy drive trouble!

This is my first post here at Hardforums, and I am told that this is one of the best forums for troubleshooting there is, so here it goes....

I am build a new computer (It's screaming fast) and I want to use a RAID-0 setup. I set it up in the bios, and everything was going well until, when i tried to make a bootable floppy, it said that there was no floppy drive connected! :mad: So i proceded to check the motherboard and floppy connections, which were all good. I also checked the bios to make sure that the drive was configured properly, which it was, and tried again, but to no avail! I then tried a floppy that i know works, and did all of the same checks, ect. but it still wasnt there! The drives are also getting power because the green light goes on when it is supposed to.

I am using an A8R32-MVP and an NEC floppy drive, and the second one a Sony floppy drive.
 
Are the green lights on the floppy on all the time? If they are you have the floppy cable reversed (on back wards) somewhere. There is an option in the BIOS for "floppy seek on boot" (or something similar). Try turning that on and the motherboard will check for a floppy "drive" during boot up. Make sure you have the correct drive type selected - 1.44 etc.
 
Yeah i have done all of that. the light does not stay on all of the time either, it goes on when it is supposed to, even though the motherboard does not recognize a floppy drive there. Is that other option under the bios rev. 0311?
 
If the floppy led is coming on during the post then the "boot up floppy seek" option is likely already on. That option is on the same page that I set my boot order in the BIOS. The drive type, 1.44m 3.5 in is likely set on the same page that the hard drives are. Depends on the BIOS. Having the floppy drive set to the wrong type may cause none to show up. Floppy seek checks to see if the floppy is a 40 or 80 track drive, DD or HD. If that doesn't match what you have entered it may just ignore the drive. If that is not your problem then I'm guessing your floppy controller is damaged.

I hope you are not trying to apply the RAID-0 on the two floppy drives. :D

Did you try connecting only one floppy at a time?
Did you try the drives in another computer?

In case you have Windows XP installed, you should see the floppy drives in the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Flpydisk\Enum
values "0" (and "1" as well if you have two of them).

USB Floppies will show up under "Sfloppy" instead of "Flpydisk".
