floppy drive question please help

ok I have a tiny prob I just bought a floppy drive(oem) for my P.O.S. gateway but the cable in the P.O.S. gateway is not the right size, if I counted right it's a 40 pin(2 rows of 20) and the floppy itself is a 32 pin (this one) is there a simple way of fixing this or should i go with a external usb floppy.

i would just plug it in and see if it works.. some floppies dont have all the pins. It might also be proprietary to certain ibm system.
 
Are you sure you are looking at a floppy cable and not an ide cable? IDE uses a 40 pin cable whereas floppies most certainly do not. Trace the cable back to the motherboard and see which port it plugs in to. Whatever you do, don't just blindly plug things in that don't fit. No standard PC floppy drive in the world has 40 pins, so your drive isn't missing anything.
 
Yeah, you're trying to plug in an ide cable to floppy, you want a floppy cable.
