Floppy Drive Issue: Diskette not being recognized

Hello,

A problem that has been driving me nuts: In "my computer" I double click on the A: drive to go into it and I get an error message saying "Please insert a disk into drive A:" when there already is one in there.

The mobo is Tyan Thunder K8WE. The tech said it's a faulty floppy port but I'm pretty sure if that was the case it woulldn't even be detected, and as far as I know, bios and windows are detecting it, just not recognizing there is a floppy in there.

What I already tried:
- I have legacy enabled in bios
- I have tried multiple floppy drives
- I have moved the drive to and fro, outside the case, inside, still same thing
- I have tried multiple diskettes
- I have checked to make sure the cord is plugged in correctly, it's keyed anyway to prevent wrong insertion.

One interesting thing is I took out the floppy cable so the drive was disconnected and the A: drive icon still showed up in My Computer and it still tried to see a diskette when I double clicked on it. Got the same msg.

The only thinig I have NOT tried is another floppy cable - I am picking one up today.

My System:
Case: Lian Li v2000
Mobo: Tyan Thunder K8WE
RAM: 4 1GB sticks Corsair 400DDR
CPU: Dual Opteron 244 CG stepping
GPU: nVidia 6800GT
DVD: Plextor PX-716SA
HD: 75gb Raptor/300gb Maxtor DiamondMax10
PSU: Zues Silverstone 650w

Any help on this matter would greatly be appreciated - thank you.

D
