Do you think SSD prices will come down fast now that HDD's dont have much of an price advantage anymore? Will we see 256GB ones for around 200 euros within a year? I'm planning getting a new PC sometime 2012, but ~300-400€ for a 256GB (current price for Samsug 830) drive is just way too much in a 1000€ budget PC. And no way I'm buying a HDD with current prices.
 
Then your only options would be reusing an older drive or not build a new pc. Unless you wanna go the prebuilt route. The large OEM got enough pull that they may be able to build new pcs without increasing the price that high.

I think SSD prices at best will remain at is. I wouldn't be a surprise if they start creeping up as the shortage last. If the demand increases would manufacturers be that willing to aggressively price them down? It's already said that SSD cannot cover the shortfall of HDs even if they wanted to. Demand up, supply down right there.

Since you said there's no way you're buying a HDD at the current prices there's not a whole lot of options left. Ironically, current prices are current. Looks like things will get even higher. So depending on when 2012, it could even be higher then 'current prices'.
 
I don't see why prices would go down as a result of increased demand, they may or may not continue their steadyish decline they've been on for a few years now, but if the HDD "shortage" does become real, and OEMs start moving more SSDs, I'd expect prices to rise. Demand for flash memory is also rising steadily, and will continue to do so for a long time to come as portable devices grow in popularity, AFAIK production was already well accounted for prior to what happened in Thailand.
