ok well, i just downloaded the demo, and well, the graphics arent to great, but man is it a system hog, it only works for me on low settings to get decent frames, and the rig in my sig is no slacker either..... maybe they need to tweak it more?

Well I hear that this game took a 7800GTX to its knees (20FPS) but I don't know what settings were used. I have a 7900GTX SLI setup, being a FS fan I will download the demo and see what I get. What resolution are you running? Your card, while powerful, is better at lower res.

Well the DX10 version should look fantastic. Unfortunately right now they are only able to show us a DX9 demo.

Well, on a 7950GX2 it.. no wait, I don't know. The demo is so buggy I've yet to get it to run on my system.

1280x1024 settings Ultra High with AA and AF.

When I start the demo on the runway with it is at 10-15 fps. After taking off and flying without land in sight I can do a 360 of the flying plane and it is at 25 fps.

I have downloaded to see what its like on my new rig , but still have to wait for a mobo , damn :(

Artist conpect image...nothing to to with the real engine...

They rendered it with what they had of DX10 and they hope the final version can do that.

lol for previous post, also looks like they didnt do much cept the clouds and the water looks a lot better, also added more boats, cars, plaines, etc., looks pretty decent, but wait till they optimize it and get dx 10...... dam thatl be aweomse :)))))))))

Poor performance is pretty typical of flight sims (and Microsoft sims in particular).

I downloaded and tried the demo on the sig in my machine. I ran it at 1280 by 1024 and it made my system chug with all the options turned up.

IMO it doesn't look a whole lot better than FS 2004.

Just remember: it is not final code. It is also meant to run on DX10, so falling back to DX9 support is not 100% ideal for the game, and performance can suffer for that.

Also, flight-sims generally have MUCH higher CPU requirements than other games.

It runs fine on my rig, I made an SLI profile for it. Set at Ultra High @ 1280x1024

Sadly, even with 4xAA/8xAF it has some rendering issues. Also likes about 650MB of RAM....

Fraps says that my runway is about 8FPS, my takeoff is 8-11FPS and open water is 15-20FPS....:( But the game isn't jerky, and I tried no AA/AF and 8xSAA/16xAF. No framerate difference...

ok redo: the game runs fine for me at 1024x768 at ultra high, buttttt huge ass rendering issues, such as messed up colors and shadows

Sounds like a driver issue.

Demo also does not include full ground textures. They had to make it small enough to fit on a CD for magazine release.

Stick with X-Plane if you want a true flight experience though.

I love the series, downloading now. I've been looking forward to FS X, I'm sure it will really shine with the DX10 version.

This is from the readme:

Code:
Major Known Issues
At the time we created this demo version, Microsoft Flight Simulator X was not yet complete and work is ongoing.
Setup
§	The Flight Simulator X demo version is not compatible with the Flight Simulator X beta versions.
Aircraft
Some aircraft in Flight Simulator X demo may not be finished.
§	Some of the incomplete items, such as untextured aircraft models and animations that don’t work, are obvious and will be implemented before the product ships.
§	You may also notice that the “level of detail”, or LOD models are not completed—as an aircraft moves away from you, it will abruptly swap to a low-detail model.
Scenery
§	Taxiway and apron textures will sometimes exhibit regular patterns of mismatched textures, especially at the intersections of different surface types. Taxiway fillets may appear with texturing different from that of the intersecting surfaces.
§	Airport boundary fences currently block out views of terrain and buildings behind them.
§	Autogen content (generic bridges, buildings, trees, etc.) and placement are still in progress.
§	Autogen exclusion is currently not working properly, so you may see trees and buildings appearing on airport polygons.
§	Some scenery objects in this pre-release demo version are not complete and may display as black or incomplete shapes. This will be corrected in the final product.
Configuration
§	The retail version of Flight Simulator X runs on Korean, Japanese, and traditional Chinese Microsoft Windows operating systems. This demonstration version of Flight Simulator X will not run on Korean, Chinese, or Japanese versions of Windows.
§	After changing time of day or location in the simulation, terrain textures occasionally won’t update, or some textures will change to black or bright colors. To resolve the issue, restart a flight. Cycling views will also occasionally resolve this problem (press S).
§	Anti-aliasing is not working on RADEON X300/X550 series cards.
§	Anti-aliasing does not work for the Free-Flight aircraft preview window for any configuration.
§	Windows in Virtual Cockpit mode may not be transparent in video cards that only support shader 1.1.
§	CH throttle quadrant's range of motion is currently limited.
§	If you are using an Xbox 360 controller for Windows with Flight Simulator, make sure you plug it in before starting. Plugging an Xbox controller in while Flight Simulator is running may cause problems with control assignments.
§	Flight Simulator will not render in windowed mode with Windows Vista Aero/Glass enabled. Disable this feature in order to use windowed mode on Vista.
§	Bloom effects are not functioning.
§	TOSHIBA: TECRA M4 users may experience a blue screen when altering screen resolutions.
§	Shader Model 3.0 card users (GeForce 6100 and ATI Radeon X1300) should update their drivers to see self-shadowing.
§	The setup repair function is not working properly. If you have problems with your installation, please uninstall and reinstall Flight Simulator.
Missions
§	The missions are still a work in progress and are currently being tuned. No known bugs should prevent you from flying the missions in the demo.

Looks like it does use SM 3.0

On my X800XL with an A64 3200 I get over 30FPS over water @ 12x16 :)

Turn down the autogen from max (2 notches for me) and the water to 2.x low or 1.x high. Autogen is the killer of FPS. Looks great, but killer.

X-Plane 8 can easily kill your system too. Crank up all the roads and see what I mean.

Flight Simulator will not render in windowed mode with Windows Vista Aero/Glass enabled. Disable this feature in order to use windowed mode on Vista.
Hmm. What's all that about, I wonder.
