Flickering Monitor Diagnosis

I've got a Chi Mei CMV-743A. Lately, the image on the screen will flicker when I turn it on. I can see the image for less than a second, then the screen goes black, but the green light stays on.

It's not a computer issue, I'm 100% it's the monitor. What could this be? I'm planning to replace it, but was wondering if this is easily fixable.

Last time I'll buy a cheapish LCD.
 
I experienced a similar problem with a Samsung 971P; the backlight was failing, resulting in the monitor flickering to all hell for about 1-2 minutes and it would either then stay on or go black. Before I RMA'd it, I couldn't even keep it on for more than a couple seconds as it became progressively worse.

It's most certainly a defective backlight. Not easily fixed.
