Flickering Horiz. Lines?

I've got an Ati 9800 Pro and after a cold boot I get some flickering horizontal blueish lines on my display. It stays this way for 5-10 minutes usually. Then the screen blacks out for a couple seconds, comes back and the display is normal. Used to happen sporadically, but now seems to be more often. Card is about a year old. Is it dying? Seems wierd because if it was heat related, wouldn't it happen AFTER running for awhile, not right after a boot?

I'm running fairly new CAT's (forget the number). Could it be driver related, or more probably hardware?
 
Did you try to use other monitor? or try that monitor on another computer. That way you can eliminate the problem.

under your display properties there should be a setting about monitors.
Select reduce DVI frequency and see if that elimates it. There is also another one I called alternate DVI frequence. Click that next and see if it helps if the first one didn't help
 
Where are you talking about? I went into control panel "display" and din't see any DVI type option. Only the normal set refresh rate screen and it is set at 60 Hz. Also went into the Catalyst control panel and also no DVI stuff. Both areas detect the proper monitor model.

I haven't used the control panel in a while (I use CCC) but I think it's located under the tab that says Displays (with the ATI logo on it) then you click your monitor tab (the actual word monitor) Or it might be the FPD tab if it's lit up (I'm at work with CRTs here)


SCRATCH..nevermind (heh I'm not erasing what i just typed). found it. Go to Options under display properties where you see your catalyst version. There is a check box that says Reduce DVI frequence on high-resolution monitors. Click that.
 
Thanks, finally found it in the Catalyst panel (had to turn on advanced view). We'll see if it works. BTW, do you know anything about the 3D application refresh override? Mine was set to disabled. I thought the LCD panels typically want a default of 60 Hz, should I use that as override or leave disabled?

Yea mine was set to disabled too, but that doesn't quite work for me. I put it "same as desktop" which cleared up a lot of the problem.

In darker games (Thief 3 and splinter cell) those flickering lines happened more often if that wasn't check.
