I wonder if you guys got any experience with said systems, I'm going back n forth between thinkering what program/OS I want to use for a NAS system I intend to build soon'ish, as soon as I can get my mind around all stuff I wanna use.

I'm thinking about following setup:

- HP ProLiant MicroServer Gen8 Intel G1610T
- 3x 3TB WD Red for storage + some parity disk, will a WD Red 3TB do fine or should I get a faster 7200rpm 4TB Opinions? Performance won't be a concern for me as I wouldn't use/access it much (this is not the case of running mediaserver + other various things, at least not in the near future, it will mostly be used as fileserver, ftp maybe, some filesharing possibly that needs 24/7 operation), I'm still pondering a faster 4TB as parity also to futureproof in case I wanna replace the 3TB with 4TB hdds sometimes in the future but I doubt that'll happen in the next 6-7 or so years as that's roughly how long I expect 9TB space will do for me.

But the OS I'm a bit up in the air with, I know for sure I at least want Windows 10 on it for some certain app(s). Question is whether it's smarter to just run on a Windows 10 install and run FlexRAID or Unraid + a VM Windows 10 installation? I think I'm more interested in real-time duplication than snapshot even if both would work for my use case. Up in the air is also how I'd do backups, if only duplicating to USB HDDs every now and then or using some of the space on my main computer for this for the most critical data (about 3.3TB or so right now).

I see quite various opinions but what I like about FlexRAID tRAID is the ability to just add HDDs to the mix and they don't need to be formatted first and you can easily also just take em out of the array and just plug into any computer and continue using them like that. It's probably the biggest appeal I have towards FlexRAID. Anyone got experiences of both?
