Flat Panel Question

I got my flat panel (Acer AL1912 - 19") for christmas and while I was watching a movie about 2 days ago a random black "strip" just appeared down my screen. At first I thought it was a huge group of pixels down my screen just died but then I relized that every hour or two the screen goes back to being perfectly normal for anywhere between 3 seconds to 20 minutes. After that, it goes back to the strip and is on top of everything. It is not the video card or anything related to the computer because even if the monitor isnt plugged into the computer, when I turn on the monitor it shows the word "Acer" before it switches to the display its connected to, and the black "strip" goes over that too.

Any suggestions or ideas on what this is or how to fix it? I do have a warrenty on it but I was wondering if there was anything I coudl do first before having to send it back to the company.

Here is a picture of what happens (you can clearly see the black strip):

I did a quick search and found nothing about that problem.

The fact that it does it over the Acer logo screen is not good. I would say RMA time.
