Im a total newbie to flashing video cards and I was wondering how I would go about doing it and also what kind of flash I can put on the x850pro AGP.

u can bios flash the x850pro *note(AGP versions are best at this bios flash)to xt with 16pipelines but keeping the default core and mem settings cause of stock cooler, if u want u can get a zalman 700 vga cooler and add that and up the core/mem to xt speeds

Here's what I did:

Downloaded ATIflash 3.09 and saved the EXE to the hard drive

Downloaded X850 XT BIOS (AGP, non Platinum) and renamed that long filename to "xt.bin"

Uninstalled all ATI software

Boot disk to DOS and run ATIflash

BACKUP OLD BIOS:
atiflash -s 0 oldbios.bin

FLASH TO NEW BIOS AND OVERWRITE ALL SETTINGS:
atiflash -p 0 xt.bin -f -newbios

FLASH TO OLD BIOS AND RETAIN PIPELINES:
atiflash -p 0 oldbios.bin -f

Reboot, install Catalyst drivers

Check pipelines using ATITool

Just in case, I'll repeat that my card is the AGP version. Good luck.
all you have to do is flash your old bios back onto the card with atiflash

atiflash -f -p 0 oldbios.bin

this should flash ur old bios back but leave the 16 pipes in the rom settings.

and watch temps if u decide to use AtiTool to find Max core/mem settings and it will scan for artifacts also, very good program i always leave it open in tray to monitor temps.

http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=417884&page=1 can find the files u need.

thanks! you pretty much nailed it! i appreciate it

about how much performance increase did you get?

i repeat i wouldnt go higher than xt speeds without a zalman 700 vga cooler.

xt speeds are core/520 mem/540

and then after changing those settings, u can SCAN for artifacts with the AtiTool.

do u already have the bootdisk? www.bootdisk.com will need one for newer OS's like XP etc...

i have the tools forgot where it was i got them, im gonna see if i can host the files somewhere. or if u have Aim messenger i can send, or email address?
