"flashing" a VC just for ATI?

Ive seen ati users talk about flashing the bios of thier card, and even seen stuff on doing a software mod to make a card "upgrade". Is this stuff strictly ATI, or do NVIDIA users have this option?

nVidia BIOSes may be flashed, the only reason I've heard of is to flash 5900NU to U or 5950
