Flashing 9700 pro

Hi all,

I have a Hercules 9700 pro, and I know there is a way to flash the 9800 to a 9800 XT.

So here comes my question, is there a way to flash the 9700 pro immediately to a 9800XT?

Any inputs appreciated!

getting a 9700pro to run 9800xt speeds is next to impossible.

there was a driver hack you could do when the 9800 pro was released that would make the system recognize the card as a 9800 pro [not sure if there was a performance increase or not]...but ive never heard of any way to get a 9700 to an XT.

About the only thing flashing a 9700pro to a 9800xt bios will do is make the system think its running a 9800xt. You wont get any performance increase or higher OC. And thats IF you can get the card working with the 9800xt bios in the first place.

Theoretically, I can see no reason why it couldn't flash. It would be DIFFICULT for it to run XT clock speeds. You'd certainly need watercooling for this one.

My rad is aircooled at the moment, pelt and voltmods to come later.

But the speeds on air are like this:
Core 420
Mem 375

Now i know people get like a 300-700 point boost in 3dmark2k by flashing from a 9800pro to a XT.

So guys it is really worthwile it!

I just need to know the way how to do it.
Any specialists around here?

Well no I didn't flash it yet, I want some certainity on the procedure about how to do it...

I just said it is possible to run at the same speeds as an XT which it already does.

And Memoryinagarden, I hoped you can shed some light on how to do it, you seem to know somewhat more about it...

while it may be possible to flash to them, the 9700 to 9800 they changed some physical things around in the core (to overcome limitations for f-buffer or something, and a few other things that the 9700 couldnt do proper)

So is it worth it if you can already get a good overclock? probably not. (ive seen to many bad bios flashs) :(

If you can run your 9700 at XT or similar speeds, the only advantage of flashing the bios would be to change the clockrate from the bios so that you won't need any external program to OC. Get a win98 bootdisk, put Atiflash on the same disk or another floppy, save the bios from your card, then get back to windows and edit the Bios card clockrate with RadEdit for example, save again the bios on the floppy and then flash the card. You could also get a Bios from the page I posted earlier but it's more sure to edit the one you have. There's nothing complicated, just run the atiflash.exe from the floppy and follow the instructions. Be sure to type everything right! Was a pain for me because I saved the bios to some stupid filename and the damn thing asked for the DOS filesystem name .

Owkay, here's the update:

-Every bios I tried gives me this 0F01 file error: file could not be opened xxx.bin

-The only bios that I manage to FLASH are the bios's designed to work on hynix memory, funny thing is that I have Samsung on my card.
So of course it doesn't work.

-How do I know I have a pal or ntsc tv-out?
Is it any important first of all which to choose in Radedit?

-Which refresh rates to use, is it also important in order to succeed?

So as a bottom line, does anybody have a Bios that they can recommend me?

Thanks for all the replies above!

the original bios :p

Hehe thanks for the suggestion, in fact you are right.

I want to say to all interested in flashing a radeon 9700pro to anything above (pro, XT) DOESN'T work.

I tried all the bioses one can imagine...

And my card still works perfect!
