I have been using a promaster ftd 7000 on my 35mm cameras, i put the thing on my digital rebel and it doesnt work, so i am looking into getting a flash from promaster again, has anyone used a 5550 DX, 5750 DX, or 7500 DX before??

I've used the 420EX and it works okay. There just aren't any manual settings on it. I also have to use the "Hacked" Firmware to adjust FEC (Flash Exposure Control) to get flash pics to work how I want them to. Not a bad flash, but Sigma might have something a little better with more features for about the same price as what Canon has.

I have no experience with Promaster flashes. Hopefully the trigger voltage on that flash didn't fry anything. I think the Digital Rebel wants Trigger Voltages at 6-8 volts, where anything above 15v risks damaging something... Cheers.

6V is the threshold on the Drebel.

Get a Canon Flash. You can probably pick up a 550EX for cheaper used now, ~$250.

You can also get a 420EX, but the drebel doesn't have FEC. You can hack it, as Tim_axe said. However, having controls on the flash is a nice feature, so try to get a 550EX.

However, you can also try Sigma's offerings. The EF500DG Super has almost the same functionality as the 550EX at half the price. Check that out!

I recently bought a digital rebel & really like it, but made the mistake of buying a 420EX flash for it, It let me down at a friends wedding as the recycle time was way too slow...
I would appreciate any suggestions for a better setup, and the best place to find it -cheap-
Thanx in advance!

i know nothing about flashes, can anyone show some pics using different flashes? I would love to learn.

Thats probably from the batteries you were using. Were you using NIMH rechargeables or Lithium AA's ?
