Fixing Tagged FTP?

I have inherited an FTP site that was tagged. Nedless to say anonymous access was the first thing I disabled :) I can ftp in fine, but I cannot do anyhting else to the directory. It's on IIS 6 (Win 2003). There appear to be no funny chars in the names, but I cannot view the folder except with an FTP client. There's no unusual attributes or characters. I just want ot kill it. There's no other data there.

Windows/dos lists the owner as "..." or no owner in Explorer as opposed to a real account.
I've tried numerous varitaions on subinacl to no avail- it claims that the acl has been changed, but I still cannot delete or view the structure in Explorer or a DOS box, just access denied evn though the top folder is owned by a proper user. Below that I can do nothing except get denied. I cannot change permission by right clicking on the folder.

I've even tried varitations on rmdir- nogo.

I cannot set rights, I cannot even view the file system. Just see it with FTP. I was able to delete some directories with ftp, but there is a file in one directory that I cannot kill along with the directory tree, but at least I can see it.

Any help would be great.

TIA

As admin I 'own' the top level directory, but cannot go any deeper except via FTP. There is no owner lower than that. The ownership is not inheriting down the tree.

Subinacl is the new tool for managing ACL's in 2003 and XP.

You should be able to force the change to child objects as well. Keep in mind that if there is a large amount of files in the directory it will take some time.

On the advanced security properties on the permissions tab there is a check box "Replace permissions on all child objects with entries shown here that apply to child objects". If you check that box it will propogate all of the changes to the child objects.

Hope this helps.

Finally got it-

C:\Tools>subinacl /outputlog=c:\tools\log.txt /subdirectories c:\t\*.* /grant=administrator=F

There were 7 total chanes made (6 folders, 1 file)

Then I finally was able to delete the tree. It seems that subinacl is very fussy about the sequence that the parameters are used.

Thanks though. Maybe this will help somebody else out along the way.
