A friend of mine was telling me about a problem with his old 19" LCD (doesn't know what model, just that it's ~4-6 years old and a Dell). This is what he said:

[00:00] <`Rob> my old monitor, when I turn it on it flashes on for half a second and then shuts off.
[00:00] <`Rob> And keeps trying to turn itself back on.

Does this sound like a back light problem, or something else? Thanks.

Fixing a LCD (for the most part) is like setting a fire and then finding a way to unburn what you burnt up. Basicly there isnt alot they can fix on a LCD other than the backlight, considering how old your friends is its not even worth it to attempt to fix it. Time for a new one.

He already bought a new one, he just wanted to know if it was fixable so he could use it as a secondary display.

If it is the backlight it probably wont be worth the time or money to replace it.
