Fixing bad sectors on HDD

Ok, here's the story.

My mom calls me one day and tells me her computer is telling her to backup and replace her hard drive. so she orders one, and i ghost the contents over to the new drive. Fixed.

But then i got thinking...this drive could still work and give my server another 40GB of space which i need badly. so i take it home, plug it in and format it. but now everytime i start the computer i have to press F1 after it warns me that the drive is failing, which is annoying, it's a server, i don't want to have to plug a keyboard into it...

So, is there anyway to get these bad sectors fixed? i tried a full format, but haven't written 0s to it yet...any other suggestions before i write 0s?
 
Run the manufacturer utilities. They usually have a program on there that will scan the drive remap any back sectors, though you will lose any data residing on those bad sectors. Do a zerofill afterword for shits & giggles.
