Fixing a video card.

If i had the resources to... could i actually fix a video card, my current card doesnt not have a burnt out gpu... some connect/circuit or w/e, has shorted, and whenever you run the card for a while, it heats up, expands, and then makes a break in a connection, locking up the system.
If i knew where that problem was, is there a way to fix it? or should i stop thinking about this... and wait 6 more months playing no video games, because i dont have a money for another card.
