i have a motorola v180 phone that supports connectivity via USB. however, i have found out after the fact that it requires a rather specific chronology of how and when things are installed.

thus, somehow, when i plugged it in to my desktop box for the first time, WinXP took it upon itself to associate it with some driver (i dont know which) that does not show up in the device manager. the phone is supposed to show up as a USB modem (it works just fine this way on my laptop).

anyone know how i can purge WinXP driver settings to force it to re-detect all hardware? or some program that will track USB ID tags as devices are installed and removed?

I have Restore turned off in XP because normally it's just a waste of time (and space) -- however, it is funny that in this one instance i wish i had it.

thanks in advance, all.

if you know what driver files it loads (check in device manager) you can manually delete them. Or, if you know what drivers it needs, manually add or upgrade the drivers for the device.
