I have an hp pavilion, mdl 15-f010dx, with a broken screen. I hooked up the hdmi port to an 15" lcd using a dongle. But booting doesn't send any signal to the lcd. ( In the past I thought connecting an external screen superceded the laptops'.) Thinking there's no setting in bios re: external display (even if I could see it).
If I take the laptop apart can I connect the inner ribbon to the laptop screen to a laptop screen from another manufacturer and maybe get picture? Caveat: the broken laptop's hard drive also gives a faint clicking. I might be able to replace that cheaper than the $40 for a new hp-compatible screen, to at least test if the laptop even works. Could I try booting from a flashdrive and somehow get signal to the external lcd?
Thanks in advance for any interest,
Mac
