Fittings for a pump

I got an Eheim 1250 pump for my first WC setup. the suction side has a larger fitting than then output side, i am interested in a fitting to replace the current suction one, either barb or compression for 1/2 ID 3/4OD tygon. i was also considering running 3/4 ID tygon to the res on the suction side. either way i still need a fitting. im sorry for being such a n00b at the WC, but im pretty fired up about getting all this stuff running! thanks in advance.
