Hi, 2 days ago i started folding, and here i got my first WU!
http://fah-web.stanford.edu/cgi-bin/main.py?qtype=userpage&username=Agashka&teamnum=33

I'm running this on the machine i have in my signature, running the SMP version (i think it's better because i have dual core?)

anyway, so i got 1760 pts for that fold in 2 days, does that means i average 880pts per day? I though a Core 2 Duo would score little more? doesn't it? Is there anyway to optimize this?

edit:
i folded for a total of 41:48mins for my first WU, if my calculus are alright (they usually never are:p) I should be getting ~1010pts per day?

Actually, you may have done it in a bit over 1 day to 1 day and half. To know the average PPD, just download fahmon and monitor the client.

Cool!

Welcome to the Team!

Team 33 FTW!

Go grab yourself a badge, like this one:

Err, i'm having some problem with HardFolding, i registred, but can't seem to be able to login, or find my user there

Congrats on that first one. May you be addicted like the rest of us. ;)

I see you got some points over at Stanford's site, but give hard folding some time, maybe 6 hours, until you can find your badge and points.

Good luck with everything. I hope you have willpower or deep pockets.

The answer is always "D." <----This mantra can get you into trouble, but it's sure as hell fun.

There is a lot of knowledge around here as far as sheparding your folding rigs go. Ask questions, they get answered quickly most of the time.

Welcome to the best folding team in the world.!

:D
I dont understand that D thingy, tho ive seen it in other threads. Right now im trying to convince my dad to me me run that Fold@home on his pc. Prolly gonna add another of my machine soon as soon as i can find any power supply and hard drive. Maybe my laptop, not sure yet....

Folders anonymous meets Tuesdays, hope too see ya there ;)

Secret decoder ring. AKA Killer[MOB]'s DC dictionary.

Ah yes, the old dictionary.

A little more insight into "D". It was sometime in July of 2001, and a multiple choice question was proposed by pagefault and choice D was to add more boxen. Since then, we've been "D"ing like there's no tomorrow because for many, there's not a tomorrow because the dragon we are trying to slay.

genome@home Overall Rank: 229 Points: 72871.77

He's not kidding this is a lot of fun. I keep trying to find the group on Tuesdays. Someone told me they meet at Microceter by the quads.

Welcome.

Close... look for the tall long haired guy with the beer.... you'll know you've found us:p

Of course, there is that other meeting on Fridays.... right alan?

Welcome to the team, glad your here:)

Oh, oh yeah I've seen the dictionary, but didn't see D. there. Oka, so anonymous meets? Where?

Damn, two weekly meetings now? But one question though. Who wants to be anonymous? I thought we were supposed to wear the [H] with pride.

They almost had it right.....

It's the empty case that used to have the quads in it :p

Woah I wiffed on that one. Yeah if your going on avg ppd off the site don't look at the site... it takes weeks for it to show accurate AVG #'s

Goto Fahmon.net and download the monitor and look at it that way :)

That is what you REAL PPD is now and give the site time to update... Besides your current production is what matters I only look at my daily turn ins and that is enough for me to know I'm helping the Team out.

Agreed on fahmon. The average PPD on the stats sites varies to much to show you an accurate figure. First thing in the morning when I haven't turned in yet or only 1 unit, it can say as little as 2200ppd while at night it will be up to 2500-2600ppd after I turn in all or most of the units I'll get that day. Hardfolding is a little more stable as it appears to do the previous 7 days, but a good day of turning in large bonus WUs or a bad day of less than normal WUs can still skew the average.

It takes the average of the last 8 days folding.
That way any humps and dips get ironed out.
So give it over a weeks worth of folding and you'll see your correct PpD.
Interesting. I had no power for about 38 hours this past weekend and my PPD plummeted very quickly. It still hasn't risen to levels prior to the outage. If what you're saying is true, why would the downward trend be rapidly manifesting in my production graph (within a day), yet my subsequent ascent upon power restoration has not?

I've noticed it does some sort of estimation based on ramping up or down... it does add in a bit of trend somehow... not sure what it does exactly...

Hmm, yes i have Fahmon, and yes, im running SMP,
thanks guys, Fahmon shows better score then the website :p

The website take a weeks (or so) worth of data and does a ppd average on it. It take a while to catch up ;)

little stupid question, but.... how much WU total will need to be calculated? like, does someone can estimate how much percent we done yet? is it ever gonna end? or?

You asking how much for a current WU you have finished?

I use FAHMon. Nice proggy.

(If not, sorry early and no caffeine yet :()

No, I believe he means how much of F@H has been completed thus far, the total DC project. To tell the truth, I don't think even Stanford knows.

If that's it....

Well how many different ways can you fold all the different that our bodies make?

No clue, but I think we have a ways to go.

My guesstimate would be at the very least another decade, barring the imminent release of quantum computers. There's just too much to accomplish on many different levels. In the early days when I started folding approx. 7 years ago, it was assumed to be a DC project with indefinite duration, just to give you an idea.. Someone like Tigerbiten who has great depth of knowledge concerning the project would be better able to answer that question.

Dr. Pande has said that they have at least a decade worth of work ready to go. He also said he's more concerned with the funding drying up than ever running out of work to do. Though I wonder now how the influx of SMP, GPU and PS3s affect that estimate. This was on FCF long before there were 3 teams pumping out 1million points a day.

I guess there is still at least a decade even if the clients performance improve ten fold in that horizon. This is because the more they discover about proteins folding, there will be more new questions awaiting to get answered and this is a unknown at this stade. This will run till they grasp the whole concept fully and write the "mechanism of folding". Maybe after F@H, there will be a new project based on the knowledge of folding (like finding a drug which affect folding in a desired way).

nice :) now to grab a "folding for noob" book, because I find the informations rly difficult to understand when googling. I mean, what the hell Am I actually calculating? "protein folding" yes but wtf is it? I*Tink* I have an idea, because I had biology last semester, but I almost failed, and chapter about protein was so small.

oh and today I convinced about two of my friends who haves C2D to fold :) sorta happy.
rather then building a farm, i'm just gonna ask people to fold, and make them ask people...

Borg for you are did they join team 33?

Don't let them join any other team.....

Friends don't let friends be {s}oft.
