This thread is aimed at people who maybe on the fence as to which console to buy. I know its tough to decide. Im going to include my likes AND dislikes i have so far.

Likes:

Blu-ray looks fantastic on my TV.
Downloaded Gran Turismo HD demo, Looked fantastic.
Very simple to navigate through the menus and setup.
Internet browsing sitting on the couch.
Built in wifi
Playstation Store is easy to use, and should be updated in the next week.
Never having to actually touch the console to turn it on/off. Using the controller is awesome.
Overall the system seems pretty fast loading things.

ill add more as i can think of them.

Dislikes:

Blu-ray movies really expensive. (paid $35 for i am legend)
Have had a few freezes. Froze once while quitting a game and twice navigating the web. (note, never once froze playing a game or watching a movie)
Online store seems slow downloading, could use more speed.
PS3 wont upscale 720p games, leaving you in crappy 480p.
Only two built in usb ports, easy fix tho.
Online store lacking features, this should be fixed shortly tho.

ill update this thread as i can think of things. overall i am very happy with the ps3 and do not regret getting it. Also, right before i bought it, wal-mart had a xbox 360 with red rings of death that was working 2 days earlier. That really helped me make my decision.

Unfortunately, Blu-ray prices are still being held at retardedly high prices in stores with no sign of change for the near future. Online though, it is a different story. You shouldn't be paying more than $25 for any movie, and most of the time its $20 or less.

I Am Legend is $19 on Blu-ray at Amazon.com

Its $19 at walmart. I saw in the store for $25 the first day it came out. If you paid $35.. you got nobody to blame but yourself. I havent even seen it that high, anywhere.

If downloading off PSN is slow, try using ethernet and see if it helps. The PS3 wi-fi can be flaky for some.

$19 at Amazon Free shipping, there was even a B2G1 deal not too long ago. Congratulations, on your purchase though. For starters you can reference the High Def Digest forum for Blu-ray movie deals.

I found downloads over Wifi (granted I have 802.11b with WEP encryption but hey) to be as the above poster described. My PS3 is probably 5 feet from my AP but still I found that downloads were taking forever. I find it a bit faster after hard wiring it but still, downloads from XBOX live market place seem significantly faster to say the least.

I just picked mine up on Tuesday and the biggest thing that frustrates me is that Sony Neglected to include ANY type of HD compatible cable and they ship this crappy composite cable (c'mon, that's 80s, 90s tech people...). So now I have to wait ~week or so for my HDMI cable to come in from Monoprice, there's no way i'm dropping anywhere between $50 - $90 (yes, I've seen this much variation in price for this kit at local stores). I know this one has been beat to death but it sucks having to plug this high end piece of equipment into a Composite video connection.. It can't even do 480p LOL!

Overall I have a hard time saying it's better or worse than the 360. The 360 has more games and still I find the PS3 has few exclusive titles. Graphically I don't honestly believe one console can be declared the winner anyhow.

Online play on the 360 is unrivaled from what I have seen thus far, but maybe in time things will improve, especially as popularity increases. I'm waiting for Sony to start charging for premium services.

Another great thing about the PS3 is it's hardware compatibility with things you may already have... For example I have the Xbox 360 Vision camera and this works just fine with the PS3, I have a Jabra JX10 Bluetooth headset and this works with the PS3 etc. The hard drive in this unit is user replaceable for a FRACTION of the price of what you have to pay for the XBOX 360. Laptop hard drives are cheap and available in far larger sizes than the $200 120gb drive that Microsoft is Offering.

I think PS3 may have Microsoft Beat on the media streaming cababilities. It looks like it is possible to stream Divx encoded video for example. For viewing pictures and browsing music on my machine I find the interface reacts more quickly than on the 360 where you sit there waiting while the swirling icon spins.

Overall, I bought mine for BD but I do intent to play some games on it. I am very interested in picking up Metalgear IV, maybe GT5, and most certainly GTA IV but I am undecided on whether I will get GTA IV for the 360 or PS3, I think I'm going to wait and see what people are saying after release.

Very good points you brought up canon that i didnt think of. As far as wifi being flakey, im wondering if thats the case now. I had it hardwired and it still was sort of slow. PS3 shows 70% signal to my router, but the router says the ps3 is getting 97%, so who knows whats real. I think the big thing about the ps3 is where its going to be in the next year or two. I think it has alot of potential. I dont think its there yet, but if sony plays there cards right and listen to the public, i think they got a real winner. I also want to add that alot of people around here in charleston are trying to trade 360's for ps3's, but i think thats because they have older ones and know RRoD is imminent. Another thing is ps3 test at 6000kbps down and 2000 up, tho on my pc my connection test at 22000 down. Makes me wonder how im losing so much speed.

I bought my PS3 last week to. I had zero problem thus far.

I bought the console for three reason:

1. games. Already owning 2 games (skate and UT3). I'll buy Uncharted next pay. Not many games but this will improve quickly!

2. Movie playback. I dont own any BR yet, but the DVD upscaling as been most impressive!

3. Stream from media center. This is too great. I dont have to use my CD loader. I just stream my MP3.. I don't have to ask people to sit around my PC to watch my baby's picture or movie, I just stream them to my PS3..

overall, the console look good. it's quiet. it was easy setup / intuitive menu. Internet Browser suck. No HDMI cable inthebox suck, though I had ordered mine presviously.

i have had my PS3 for two weeks now and i love it for all the reasons already mentioned, this is my first console so i can't say anything about the 360 but i am really impressed with my PS3.

i have had a couple freezes nothing big, and download speeds are pretty slow as well, but nothing that is worth getting upset about.
