First water rig... Thoughts and help please

Ok so ive had my computer for a few months but it’s gotten to the point where it’s just too damn loud :( So water comes to the rescue in my mind. Now I’ve recently picked up a new case a Rocketfish because for one it was $70 and a rebadged Lian Li ^^ it should look like something like 96redformulas case here : http://www.hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1032776081&postcount=513
Next up are the items I’m going to be cooling:
CPU, NB, and GPU and anything else that you guys think I should hit up in the loop.
More specifically the items that are going to be cooled or needs fitting are:
780i EVGA board... the CPU; a q9450, the NB on the 780i , and 2 8800GT’s. Im thinking of using a http://www.dtekcustoms.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=210 for the CPU, http://www.swiftnets.com/products/mcw60-R.asp for the 2 8800GT 's. Now I'm at a loss as to what to use for my NB block and what kind of radiator and pump to go for.

Pump is easy, D5 Vario / Swiftech MCP655 when pushing all that through one loop. As for Rads, I take it you plan on hanging this externally, or internally similar to the case setup you linked in your post? Go with a PA 120.3. If thats too pricey, go with a Swiftech MCR320.

Block choices look good for the GPUs and CPU. Northbridge you can go with the EK-NB 780i block which should be readily available.
 
2 8800GT's and 1 Q9450 will dump one hell of a lot of heat... I wouldn't go with anything other than a PA120.3... Or, if you have the room (you do!) and want to save a bit of cash/noise level... Get a MCR320 and a single BIP 120 or something... Those 2 radiators combined will surpass the PA120.3 in most cases.

The difference between a MC320 and a PA120.3 is less then 2c, and thats with a OC'd CPU and 8800GTX's. and yet its 1/3'd of the price and its smaller.

I would go with the swiftech :p i made the mistake of buying a PA 120.3, yeh sure my temps are good, but i couldve gotten the same temps for cheaper.
 
Ok thanks, looks like my blocks are covered unless anyone else has something they can whip out that will lay the smack down on any of the listed blocks above. As for the rads the MC320 is just slightly weaker than the PA120.3 but costs a whole lot less and seems to have lots of praise ^^ The next issues really is the whole barb and tubing sizes. I was thinking about 1/2" all around unless thats a bad idea because having a high flow rate helps with keeping the temps down right? Oh i almost forgot T line v reservoir? Im thinking that the reservoir is better or has the potential for less headaches if ive got the room right?

compression fittings, thoughts, they seem to look very clean but im not 100% on them, should i get them and are they easy to use? using a barb its just fit the tubing over it and then zip tie it down right?

Take into consideration that he's trying to cool 2 GPU's, a CPU and a northbridge. The PA120.3 is way less restrictive than the MC320. Under the theory that you are only cooling the CPU and maybe one GPU then yes the MC320 may be able to stand against the PA120.3 but under load .. not quite. You will have to compensate the restriction, add more fans and in the end will give you as much air noise as an air cooled rig.


To the OP:
While the PA120.3 will be able to handle the listed items, it will stress the radiator. My suggestion is to get a PA120.3 and either add the MC220 or another PA120.2. This may not be the cheapest solution but it WILL give you the least amount of noise and will not compromise any cooling.

If you'e worried about cost then the MC330 coupled with MC220 is your best bet. However you will be using more fans so it may negate your whole attempt to decrease the noise.

Actually, the difference between an MCR320 and a PA120.3 is around 20% more heat dump capacity... Where the MCR320 will dump around 400w to air (with 1200rpm fans) the PA120.3 will dump around 480w.

Consider an 8800GT SLI setup will produce around 225w (250w easily if they're overclocked), and a quad core processor, at any appreciable overclock, will dump around 150w+, we're looking at 375-425w for the theoretical max heat load of the loop.

The MCR would be saturated, IMO, from such a setup.
 
I can fit a duel rad system however in what order would i want to put them in my loop. have the PA120.3 cooling the NB and the CPU and have the other rad cool my 8800GT SLI or have it the other way around if the 8800GT SLI makes more heat?

It really depends on how it's mounted on your case. People have their preference about what should go first bla bla bla. The water should be equal all around but if you want to get technical then it's at it's coolest right ouf the radiator.


Here's my (opinion) order. Please also note that I specifically didn't add a reservoir because some people choose to do a bay some choose the swiftech and others choose to use a fillport instead... whatever floats your boat.

Start - > 120.3 (or whatever 3x120 you use) => Pump => CPU => NB => RAD 2 (120.2 or any 2x120 you use) => GPU 1 => GPU 2 = Back to the 120.3...

The two GPU's will dump the most heat out and that's what you want running through your triple fan radiator then back to the CPU and the NB.
