So I'm browsing the web looking for deals on new components, and I come across some nice stuff. 754 motherboard bundle for $210 w/ Half Life 2, Farcry, and free music, and some pc4000 from kingmax for $80

Decided it was time I updated my poor old sytem (geforce 6800 and a duron). Obviously, I kept the video card and the non-performance related hardware, but everything else had to go.

So here's the important stuff:

Sempron 3100+ (1.8g)
MSI K8n Neo nF3 250gb motherboard
512mb pc4000 Kingmax Hardcore
Geforce 6800.

Anyways, onto the OCing. I got my fsb up to a flat 250, Ram synchronize, 1t 2.5-3-3-8, 2.7 volts on RAM and default (1.5?) on cpu. This yeilds me 2.25GHz on the stock multiplier (which it is set at) and 4x HT (1000 even:D).

What do you guys think? I want to push it out a little more, I've been wanting 2.4GHz.....an advice? It doesn't seem to cooperate, no matter what voltage I run through the RAM and cpu.

Your video card is holding you back. I suggest selling it and getting a Voodoo FX card.

For the slow, that was a joke... Honestly, I think i'd say (yes me) its a safe bet that that is gonna be your maximum overclock.

voodoo woot

just tried that....can't get the HT link above 1000 (260x4 won't boot). Got it up to 2.34GHz w/ HT at 3 and RAM at 200.....

HT link needs to stay under 1000.. ive read the performance difference between 800 and 1000 is neglible so i wouldnt worry about how fast the ht link is. what kind of voltage you using at 2.34ghz?

Ahhhh, why do people get semprons? The celeron outperforms them, fairly decent overclock at least.

sempron 3100+ owns all celerons

It's always better to know things before talking about them.....

The Celeron D arguably outperforms the k7 based semprons. But the one I got is a different beast. Some have called it a "a real wolf in sheep's clothing," but I prefer to call it what it is- a bastardized Athlon 64. It performs essentially like a 3.2GHz Pentium 4 in games - something a celeron, be it northwood;) or prescott, could never hope to do.

Anyways, I hit a stable 2.43ghz w/ a 270 fsb. RAM needed 2.75 volts and 3-4-4-10 timings (spec), processor was @ a nice 1.65 volts (at least I think that's nice).....

All this being done on a Stock HSF w/ artic ceramique.

Any other ideas?

congrats :D and on semi stock cooling  but i guess its fine as long as the temperatures arent too high. looks like youre near the limit (i dont think your sempron can OC too much higher with your current cooling but hey you can prove me wrong :D )

I dunno....I'm not really worried about temps right now....I'm all for seeing where this thing caps off. I'm only running one or two runs of 3dmark03 at a time (I got 9940 w/ my 6800 unlocked, but unfortunately the other pipes/vertex shader is messed up and huge visual problems arise). The RAM divider doesn't seem to work....but I can do 2.5-3-3 @ 250 under 2.7volts so I assume I can go higher then 270....

When I get home from school I'm going to check out what more I can do....

lower yout htt and use a memory divider

make HTT 3
use a 5:4 divider

just a couple of ideas

alright guys....I need a new hsf. The stock gets really hot, really fast. I'm on a really tight budget, but I want the best for my money. I've been thinking aout getting that new big ass flower (7700 all copper) but anything that's head head and torso beyond stock will do

this is what i would get..

xp-120 > xp-90 > zalman7700 > zalman7000

youll have to check if the xp-120 fits though.

alright, I've gotten the thing into windows at 2565mhz. I can get 3dmark to start, but it freezes up in the first 10 seconds. I really want 2.6 out of this baby, so here's what I need to know....

Are high voltages safe....like, 1.75 or 1.8 on the cpu? I only need a run of 3dmark and a bit of farcry to make sure it's stable.........so I can be sure taking the plunge on a new hsf is worth it.....

they aren't safe unless you get a better HSF. I wouldn't reccomend going above 1.7 on any air cooling (but I'm a little conservative).

didn't really check temps, but the hsf wasn't even warm to the touch and it has been warm....

40c idle.....

shit, that's at 1.65.

hmm.....43c idle at 1.8
