Hello all,

I have looked through your site extensively and can clearly see that this is a great source of information, guidance and advice. So before I say anything, thanks for being awesome!

Now that the butt kissing is out of the way lol, I recently built an i7 920 rig and I am interesting in overclocking for the first time. I have never OC'ed before, and I am looking for a guide how to SAFELY do this without blowing up or burning out anything. I realize there is risk involved, but I also know that there are relatively safe boundaries. That being said I looked at the C2D thread and didnt see anything about the i7...so if there is something i missed, link it, otherwise can you all help me out with this? My Rig is as follows:

Antec 900 case (fans cranked up)
thermaltake V1 AX (fan cranked up)
Intel I7 920
6gb OCZ Tri Channel DDR3 1600 Ram (8-8-8-24)
2x 9800GTX SLI
Thermaltake Modular 850w PSU.

So far everything is running very cool and stable and great. I wouldnt mind OC the processor and maybe the ram too...vid card i dont think needs anything yet. Any other suggestions I am open to. And thanks in advance for everything!
 
ok first of.. the biggest thing you could do to protect your self for the first time overclocking... dont touch any of the voltage settings.. try overclocking to your highest stable point without playing with the voltages... if you do then stay within manufacture specs.. once you got that out of the way and you start feeling more comfertable with the overclocking.. then slowly play with the voltages.. dont make any drastic voltage changes.. as long as you stay under the 1.4v the odds of you frying anything are slim.. the motherboard should protect the hardware before you could do any damage to it..

and rule number what ever.. dont use auto voltage settings.. manually set the voltages your self.. if you leave them on auto you will kill something..
 
thank you for the reply. i still dont really know where to start. i have the evga E-Leet program...just start increasing the qpi? pcie (doubtful)? the cores individually? and define "stable"
 
id do the overclocking through the bios.. im not a big fan of overclocking within windows because if you do something wrong you can corrupt your windows..
 
so do you all recommend any good walkthroughs on how to do it and what to look for? ive seen a few but i dont want to trust anything just because its there....
 
just search around for news.. look at various reviews and their max overclocks.. but overclocking the 920 is very very simple.. shouldnt have to touch the voltages unless you want to go over 3.8ghz..
