This is my first time overclocking and im thinking of overclocking my amd processor that runs at 2.08GHz but is adverticed at 2.8GHz does this mean it is safer to push it up to 2.8 so it will run faster or what please someone help me im totally clueless
 
also is it worth it to do, this is about a year old the processor im getting a new motherboard would it be worth it to get a new AMD processor and overclock it to what it is adverticed as, someone explain to me why AMD does that crap with adverticing it at 2.8 or 3.2 and running it at like 2.08 or 2.2 plz i need help i r leet nub i need someone to take me under their wing
 
I'm sorry you are a leet nub. AMD advertises like that because they believe that their CPUS run equivalent to what an Intel would run out. So their AMD 2.8 in their opinion runs equivelent or better than the Intel.

The AMD 2800+ (which i assume you're talking about) runs at 2.08GHz. It is not called the AMD 2.8, but 2800+. AMD does (in my findings) offer more performance for the money. Just go to pricewatch.com and pretend you have a $120 budget (which is the max. I will spend on a CPU) and pick the most powerful CPU..it will be an AMD

From 2.08 GHZ to 2.8GHz is a large overclock....what cooling are you using right now? You might try getting familiar with your motherboard....make sure it allows for locked FSB overclocking (so you aren't ocing your PCI/AGP and other buses/devices by accident. Remember, start slow and do stability tests. And know your motherboard's reset procedure....you'll need it if you want to have fun!



Now I don't mean to offend anyone who purchases Intel CPU's, but for my budget as a high school student I find I can get the best bang for my buck with an AMD solution
 
okay snaps but what is your feeling on overclocking a AMD
