Alright so I have never modded anything before but I really want to try this. Me and my dad are going to be doing the basic cutting out of the back panel and putting a fan there but I also want to try and put an acrylic window on the side with a hole in the side for my new zalman gfx card cooler. What I want to know, is how hard is it to really put an acrylic window in and if anyone has an good tutorials. Would I just be better off with making it a large grate on the side with a hole cut in it?

Assuming your talking about a shuttle system, the removal of the grill is pretty easy just remove EVERYTHING from the system so that no metal filings get on anything electrical.

As far as windows, there are a couple of ways of doing it. You can buy a premade kit with window, molding and cutout pattern from a variety of different mod stores. Or you can custome make your own using a dremel and then purchase lexan and then drill bolt holes and attach it with rivits or nuts and bolts.

Or you can buy a premade one at a shuttle part seller.

I have been looking into the dimensions of everything and I think that if I do cut a hole for a new fan for my GPU, it would have to be pretty big. Does anyone have a shuttle with a replacement fan on it and if so, does the cover fit back on without having to cut a big enough hole for the fan to stick out? Also, does anyone have one of the Zalman GPU heatsinks that dont use a fan? Are they any good or better than the fans?
