So I have an old 6600GT lying around, and I have an old tube of AS5 lying around. Since I'd never taken off a GPU heatsink before to see that glorious mirror finish, I decided tonight was the night.

About an hour later, I could only push the card to 76C, when I remember it approaching 90C back when I used it.

Quite fun.

wow.. 90C on stock cooling with the 6600GT? what the heck overclocks were you using? i could never exceed 70C on my old 6600GT but then again im sure my ambient temps and case cooling might of been better.. i dont even think i exceeded 70C with my 7300GT softmodded to 7600GT+ overclock..

Well I don't know what kind of crazy cooling setup you had, but the nVidia 6000 series routinely ran in the 80Cs. Mine especially, since the original TIM was a cheap pad and the heat sink is only seated by two small tabs on springs.
