As the title says, I find this socket either REALLY easy, or I did something wrong? In the installation instructions it says "align the pins with the CPU, and make sure the pins fit into there corresponding holes." Well, I know the CPU is matched right, but there are NO holes on the bottom of my C2D E6300, just gold colored surfaces. Am I right in thinking that the pins on the socket area just touch the bottom of the CPU? If so, then its installed correctly. Thats what I did, then i pulled back the lever, and nice and tight it went. Please tell me I didnt do something wrong.

You didn't do anything wrong at all. The CPU will only go into the socket 1 way, and it's keyed to make sure of this. If the CPU sat flush in the socket then you are good to go. Enjoy your new system.

Ok, so the pins just "rest" on top of the CPU right? Thank you

Actually...the CPU rests on top of the pins. :D But yea... if you look at the socket you can see that the pins are a bit "springy" so when you apply pressure from closing the socket clamp it will depress the pins a bit to assure contact. It's really a cool design, though fragile on the socket, it makes storing CPUs MUCH easier. I can't count the number of times I've had to straighten CPU pins... and I can count the number of times I've had to do the same with the new socket on one hand. Even then it's usually because some idiot screwed up and put the CPU in wrong. I once had an LGA771 socket that had, literally, 20+ pins bent back. That was a fucking nightmare getting it back into working condition. LOL
