I have just started playing diablo 2 for the first time. What are some things I should be looking for, items , weapons and all that shit. Any advice would be great

+1, still my favorite game of all time, if Diablo 3 is half as good I'll be happy (well, not really...).

Are you playing on battle.net or single player? If SP I'd quit and play on BNET, the game is identical either way and it's alot more fun playing with other people.

I'm still playing and pretty much have been since it came out. If you play on Bnet USWEST ladder I will help you get used to it.

On a side note what char did you decide to make?

I didnt realize that, I just started a single player game and have only completed the first quest so far. Maybe I will just a new game on the battle.net

I am the character who can raise the dead, Necro.

Good beginning choice. Are you on the east coast or west?

I still play, too. I always start as a Barbarian and then create other characters once I'm done smashing my way to the end. I have at least 40+ different characters saved on an external hard drive. I desperately hope Diablo 3 lives up to our expectations.

Same here. I can't imagine that it will. Talk about a steep hill to climb. <Fingers crossed though>

Download and install (overwright the exe in your D2 directory) this with the latest patch. It allows you to play in widescreen resolutions. But you cannot play on battlenet with it, so make sure you backup your old files first.

Here are a few screenshots I took while playing,

I bought Diablo 2 the week it was first released. I played it for a long while and have quit several times. I had also played the shit out of Diablo, mostly through modem with a friend, and even have a copy of Hellfire sitting around that is too scratched to install :(.

I really hope Diablo 3 lives up to the series's legacy. I'm also looking forward to some Starcraft II as I played almost as much Starcraft as the Diablos.

I am also looking forward to those games. Thing is most of those who worked on Diablo 2 left Blizz and some on rather bad terms. I know for one thing the music is done by some one else. PC Gamer said that it just did not have the same "Feal". Ill take that as a matter of opinion not fact. Also they took away the mouse clicking and added hot keys for abilities. Not a bad thing its time to upgrade after almost a decade and a half. The graphics look more like WoW though then Diablo. Not sure if that was to reach a larger target audience or not. May turn some people off. i will buy it regardless. If it gets shelved as crap so be it.

They took away mouse clicking? aww man. As for the music though, from what I have heard its very "Diablo" especially the music for Tristram.

I agree with you though, it does look a bit like WoW, all those boxy edges and pastel shades kind of turn me off, its not going to keep me from buying it though, I just hope that they put a little more "demonic" artwork into it. One thing from the video's I've noticed is that they have alot more blood and gore , which is a plus, but they don't need to go "Mortal Kombat" overboard with it.:p

Yeah I know. I just hope they didn't pull too many of the WoW guys onto the project. If I really wanted to play WoW, I'd just play the full-fledged MMO instead of a "gimped" one. Either way like you guys I'll pick the game up at release and hope for the best.

And those photos of the widescreen resolution might just tempt me to play Diablo 2 again. It looks really good and I wish Blizzard would allow you to do that on Battle.net!

Thanks for posting those shots - look really nice! :)

About the art direction on D3... I remember how much bitching there was about D2 when it came out... "the artwork sinks.... chacter animation is terrible...", etc. It even got lousy reviews for being boring and repetetive.

To be honest, I really did prefer the look of the first Diablo and better. The fireballs looked awesome in the first and Diablo looked evil and you ran your ass off to get away from him!.... but he reminded me of Godzilla in D2. But none of that mattered once I got into the game because at the time it was so ground-breaking and talk about replayability.... it's still on sale all over the place!

Soooo..... my fingers are crossed for D3. Even if the graphics aren't what everyone would like, I hope Blizzard has some tricks up their sleeves to make the game something special, like they did with D2.

ohh damn that wide screen thing looks sick! wish i had that back in the day... anyhoo what you want in d2 is a MAGE. You can level one up pretty quickly with little to no gear, just get MAGIC FIND items and start farming mephesto act 3 in nightmare. Once u collect some nice gear go out and make a new char and PK! enjoy cheer.

Mage huh? :p

But yeah, that's a good starting road.

PornoSatan has to be the best username I've seen during my 2.6 years on [H]!! :p

Wish there was a widescreen D2 mod for Macs. :(

Heh, I tried that but it doesn't launch the game, it shows the program running in task manager but it doesn't show the game screen. :/

There are so many older games I missed that I'm pretty much set for the next few months. Heh, i suppose it's a good thing for me that we're in such a modern slump for PC games (Huzzah for consoles!:()

I had that issue at first too. Run the D2vidtest.exe and then configure it to use DirectDraw. Run the program. If the problem still persists, re-run the D2vidtest.exe and config it to use Direct3d. It worked for me when I told it to use Direct3d.

I tried that but it doesnt seem to work with 2d. I was able to get it to launch with 3d though. /shrug

Can't say I have any advice. Maybe use one of the new classes that came with the LOD expansion. I recently started it again and got all the way to the final boss of chapter 4 and couldn't get past it. Haven't had time to go back yet.
