First time building a SFF

Hey all,

This is going to be my first time building a SFF pc, I've always made full towers before, and I was wondering if you guys can help me out with my build (all components are going to fit, enough performance, etc.)

I will be mostly gaming on a 1920x1200 monitor, and portability of the system is a big plus (not too heavy, easy to carry around).

Anyway, here are the specs I'm looking at:

Video Cards: 2x ATI 4850 1GB Crossfire (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814161245) - or should I go single 4850 or single Nvidia GTX 260
CASE: Thermaltake VF1000BWS (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811133035)
Memory: 4gb (2x2gb) G-skill DDR2 1066 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231166)
HSF: SILVERSTONE NT06-E (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835220033) - going to have a PSU with a fan in the bottom hanging over this for the airflow - can you guys recommend a good one?
HD: OCZ SSD 64Gb (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227344) - OS drive - got this for $80, I think that's a steal
Seagate ST3640323AS 640GB - (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148335) - games and storage drive
PSU: suggestions from you guys

Will I be able to game decently with these components? Will these fit? Are there better options (better bang for the buck, etc...)? Any help/input will be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't think that crossfire is worth the trouble for what you are doing.

Stick with an Asus P5E VM HDMI

Get either a 1GB HD4870 or a GTX260.

Probably better off getting an E8500 for the higher multiplier and a little easier overclocking.

For the PSU a Corsair HX520 or HX620 or a Silverstone ST50EF-SC.

The NT06 runs hotter then stock HSF but it will be quieter. Unless your planning on overclocking, stick with stock or get a better slimline HSF like the Scythe Shuriken or Zalman 8700.

If you want max OC potential, get the E8500 as it has the higher multiplier. I'd stick with a single 4870 or GTX 260 to make it easier. Go with the Asus P5E-VM HDMI as its a very stable board and overclocker without paying premiuem for the DFI unless you want absolute max OC potential. Also get the Western Digital Black 640gig, its the top drive right now.

Stick with Corsair, Antec, Silverstone, Thermaltake PSU's as they offer modular PSU's as thats a MUST for SFF systems. Check out how crammed mine is with modular, just imagine it with excess cables lying around.

You will not find a performance gain going from a e84 to e85, other than e-peening if you manage to get a higher overclock. You'll be cooler limited for overclocking so that wouldn't matter worth anything. The lanbox can accommodate a stretched NT06 with a low speed fan at the bottom and/or an Enzotech Ultra doing the same, and will get that 4GHz overclock without spiking on thermals. Let's see Intel stock do that.

GPU should be something with more than 512mb video ram and a higher end card. The new GTX 295 is drool worthy if you can splurge. If not then a GTX260 216sp has been getting better reviews and scores than the 4870 1GB on pretty much every site out there, plus evga and bfg just have unparalleled CS than ATI vendors have nothing over. If you can find the 192sp GTX260 for an uber low price then get that.
