First ssd (few questions)

So I picked up the Sandisk Ultra 240gb SSD a little while back and with the other pieces now in place Im ready to put my new rig together.


Im currently on XP 32bit and would like to install win7/8 on the drive before I tear down my current rig.



Do I need to set this drive in any special way before I install win7/8?
I hear about trim and garbage collection but is that something I have to worry about before installing win7/8?
Should I update the firmware of the drive before installing my new OS?

Garbage collection is built into the firmware, it works in the background during idle time.
TRIM doesn't need to be enabled, as long as you have an SSD aware OS it will just happen. Win 7 and 8 are both SSD aware.

Yes. Always check for latest firmware before installing windows. You can do it later, but it's less hassle if something goes wrong.
Better to brick a blank drive than lose all your data ;-)
