Hey guys,

i have finally decided to go for a µATX gaming rig.
No desire to overclock nor patience to mod anything..

I have thought of the following, roughly:

TT Lanbox Lite
ABIT F-I90HD
OCZ XTC Vista Upgrade Kit 4096MB PC2-6400U CL5-6-6-15
XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 600M XXX, 640MB GDDR3
WD Raptor X 150GB

I haven't really been into hardware lately, but the Abit board does not support SLI, does it? :(
Are there any more suitable boards?

I don't really have any budget limit to watch out for, but it obviously shouldn't be astronomically high ;)

Please help!
 
XQpack2 SO much better.

That is a decent board but if you're not into Ocing the MSI G33 might be up your alley. Cheap and has the best placement 4 vid cards.
 
well the lanbox lite is sick as hell! way better than the lanbox! and dont go with the f-i90hd, i have one, died on me once but my rma is still kickin! but there is a high % of death rate with that board, so just get one of the combos at frys with the e6850 and the ecs g33 board and u will be set! or you can get the e6550 sombo if would like. doesnt matter, and stick with all the other parts and it will be a tight system!
 
The MSI G33 is up your alley. And forget SLI; you're going to have a fun time dealing with the space issues and heat issues.
You can find better RAM, can't you? I think there's some good rebates going on the Platinum Rev. 2s. Those are 1GB DIMMs though. If you want 2GB DIMMs...

Not sure if you need the Raptor.

FSP AX-450 or Corsair 450VX for your power supply.
 
Definately stay away from the F-I90HD mobo. The Raptors are nice if you can afford them. They can bootup the O/S faster than the 7200 drives and in game load times are better than what the 7200rpm drives as well. Having that comes with a hefty cost though and the drives arent that big in space. If you get the 150Gb Raptor make sure not to get the windowed version. Its nosier than the non-windowed version. Some estimates are 5-10 decibels louder. Performance otherwise is the same between the two. Costs are pretty similar now as well.

The Lanbox Lite is a must-have for me, i do not like any of the other SFF cases tbh.

I will opt for the G33 instead then.

Any advice on a CPU cooler? Boxed?

And yes, i do want the Raptor, just for the sake of finally giving it a try.
I have considered switching the GTS for a GTX card, as i would move the Raptor to the drive bay.. planned to get the windowed Raptor but if it really is that much louder, there is no way i will get that one then ;)

I read that the GTX would fit then.

Heh, I'm actually in the process of buildin a TT Lanbox for myself. First comp I've built. I was lookin for a CPU cooler and stumbled apon this Silverstone NT06-LITE. From what I've read it isn't bad and I'm almost absolutely sure it'll fit. Here it is if you wanna get the same one I am. Was worried it would be too high if I got the fan with it, but that's up to you if you think it'll fit lol. Gettin ready to post my own topic to make sure parts are compatible (almost sure of it, just a double check) or atleast near it.

If you're not absolutely set on the Lanbox Lite, check out the Silverstone SG01 or SG03. I just finished a SG03 build and absolutely love it. Even without supplimental cooling on the CPU I can't get it above 55c under stress/load.

I did not really plan to go for the SG03 as it's huge compared to what i had in mind... but, i guess it's nice and i will change that as well ;)

The MSI G33 seems to be out of stock almost everywhere in Germany, which is where i'd order it from.
Plus i don't think i'll be able to find it anywhere here in Turkey where i am right now :(

Any tips on better RAM? and yes, 2x2gb please :)
 
If you're wanting more storage, you can look into any of the Seagate perpendicular recording HD's. They compare well against the raptors in everything but seek times. Add to it you can get a metric ton more of storage for the same money, and you have a winner in my book.

I'd be rocking them if I didn't already have a Raptor 150. Heck, I might still rock one in my HTPC.

GTX will not fit into a Lanbox without some cutting.
NT06 Lite does not touch the PSU, and should leave a gap between the PSU and the heatsink itself. (The NT06 fits perfectly in Sugo cases, which have 67mm of space. The Lanbox has approx. 100mm)
 
Despite what card you get remove the HD Cage as it restricts airflow greatly. Since you have a powerhouse you should look for some new fans to put in. The Tt Lanbox Lite comes with a 80 in the front and 2x60 in the back. I second Leman's suggestion for the VX450 or else the HX520 (both from Corsair)
 
@Ghent, anything beyond the Raptor's 150GB i don't really need and can cover elsewhere (external, server).

Although i have considered getting a 32GB SSD as system drive. That'd be fun.

Forget SLI, Im fairly certain s939 is the only platform that has a mATX with 2 PCI-E 16 slots.

The Thermaltake Orb series was the best that I came accross for a Lanbox. I tried water but didnt have enough room to fit everything and have it look nice. And be careful on what you read about the Lanbox. I read that the scythe mini ninja would fit but it does not. I even tried removing the caps on top, the top fin, and bending the heatpipes. Somehow the PSU caused my modified Scythes temps to skyrocket, ran nice and cool with the PSU outside of the case.

I added an 8800GTS 640mb to my lanbox build and the temps soared. An 80mm fan fits perfectly on the vent above the pci slots. This helped exhaust the heat much better then dual 60mm stock fans, which I still used, but was still way to hot for my tastes. Adding a GTX will be a pain due to size and also heat, my GTS was hitting 100C+ before adding an 80mm fan and about 85C after.

Your build looks nice and cooling will be your biggest obstacle. I could never get my temps down to a level I found acceptable so I turned my SFF C2D gaming pc into a SFF AM2 File server.
 
A 8800GTX will fit in the SG03 without any modifications... I'm running one in mine, and it runs pretty cool too (51c idle)

What practal said is mostly true... the only SLI mATX board is a 939 board, but it has two PCI-e 8x electrical slots so 8800's would be starved for bandwidth.

If you go with the SG03 I would higly recommend picking up two Scythe S-Flex 49cfm 120mm fans. They really are only 20dba and push enough air to keep all those parts you listed cool.

I'd also consider the Silverstone ST60F or ST75F and the short cable set, it makes things so much easier to cable and work with versus standard cable lengths.

If you're worried, you can also get the VX450.
And its a 60 above the PCI slots. Not an 80. /grumble

I actually find my Blue Storm II to be just fine. The PCIe cable can be bent and shoved into the space between the hard drive and the optical (top rack), and the rest can be put in the top optical bay (with the optical installed in the second). The EPS12v (that's what the 4-pin power is called, right? I never remember.) might run into your CPU fan if its exposed (the fan). Play with it a bit.
 
I am sticking to a GTS card now.

Do you guys think a 500W PSU will suffice? It's the only one i can find with short cable set.. No SLI either, of course.

Yes, 500w will be fine as long as its a good quality unit. The Silverstone short cable version for example. The Corsair 520w (modular) will also be a good choice.

About the cooler.. should i just get the NT06 instead of NT06-Lite?
Is it any different except for the fan?
The NT06 Lite wont be available for me for some time, but the NT06 is...
