I've heard lots of different answers to this and I figured you guys would post dates n shit. I know i could google this and i will but i'd like to hear from you all too. Thanks.

I believe that he wants to know which rts was the first one ever created.... am I right?

Dune 2 was the first one I played, and I thought it was the very first one. When I looked it up on Wikipedia, it said that Stonkers was the first RTS game.

I've also heard Dune 2. If it wasn't the first, it's the one that set how they should be.

Westwood's Dune II: The Building of a Dynasty (1992) introduced in one sweep all the core concepts of modern RTS games [6] and was thus the first game with what can be considered the today recognised feature set for "full" RTS games that reached popular acclaim and awareness, and as such acted as the first significant prototype for the coming "modern" RTS genre.

Damn that looks crappy!

Dune 2 ruled. Great sound and music for the time (given that you had a good sound card, it was just at the beginning of the 'more than bleeps' era). However, the "AI" was quite sucky.

I remember staying up many nights playing that damn Dune II game. God it was fun.

Little did I know it was going to jumpstart an entire gaming genre.

The first one I played was the original Command and Conquer... I can't wait for C&C3!!!

wow, some great memories of Dune 2... lemme try to dig the old disk for some nostalgic time.

No No No....that absolutely CANT be correct about Dune 2......Might have been the FIRST RTS game for the "common" PC...but I was playing RTS games LONGGGGG before that came out....

Anyone ever play Spy vs Spy on the Commodor? That was, by all means and form, a RTS and it came out yearssssss before 1992..

I also remember playing a game called The Great Escape. Wasnt much more than a few pixils for a character and buildings and whatnot, but, just the same, it was also a RTS, much like how AoE was when it first came out,,,but The Great Escape came out a longgggg time before AoE and probably Spy vs Spy too....

Atm, those are the only games I can think of....but there ARE more,,,,,,,MUCH MUCH more RTS games that came out b4 Dune2. But like I said, IMO, I think they are just going by what WE, today, would consider a PC....wayy back then, a Commodor wasnt a PC as far as the definition applies today......i.e. you couldnt go inside it and do all kinds of upgrades with video cards and stuff like that.....Did they even have computer part stores back then, LOLOL......

Mannnnn, im old.......

OH OH,,,just thought of another.......

Anyone remember playing SNIPES?

Just another of the"early days" of RTS games......You went around a maze type area, kinda like pac man, but the screen scrolled......you "hunted" other snipes to kill.....and if I remember correctly,,,,,you could link 2 computers up together and have 2 people in one game,,,,,back then,,,,,,,that was almost unheard of in games....So, maybe Snipes was the beginning of MMORPG/RTS, heh.....
