hello :)
these are some pictures of my current (and first) project

this is the remaining of the aluminium sheet (before it was 2m x 1m), still don't know what to do with :)

this is the case... just cutted, drilled and bolted, still have to cut the holes for fan, opticals, psu, ...

and this is the what the inside looks like :)

hope to do some updates soon :)
cya!

this weekend i had some time and i've done some work :)

basically i cut the PSU mounting holes, this is the alu before...

and after the cut :)

will this shiny psu fit?

apparently yes!, maybe i'll have to erlarge the hole a little bit...

and this is the case from the inside with the psu...

after this i begin to draw the holes for the three 92mm front fans (the system will be air cooled...)
but then stopped because of the temperatures...

i'm working in my garage... outside is snowing... and in my garage there are nearly 0°C....
i'll have to find something to warm up the room... or another place to work if i'll hope to finish in the xmas break :)

no updates about the case... still have to found a place warm enough to work on it

about the hardware I'm planning to put inside the box, i'll buy it after xmas, but i've already prepared a to-buy list

cpu: AMD x2 3800+ or Opteron 165 (or 170)
ram: 2x1GB, maybe corsair 3500LLpro
mobo: still incertain... maybe an ASUS a8n32-sli...
HD: Western digital, 250GB, SATA-II or similar, and i already have another sata 160GB
optical: i already own a LiteOn DVD-RW drive, don't know if i'll keep it in my current rig or move it in the new
GPU: hard choice... still have to decide if i want to go for a 1800xl(xt) or a 7800gt(x)

about the cooling:
as said i plan to go for aircooling, for the CPU i plan to buy a Zalman CNPS 9500. it seams powerful and i prefer to have a hsf that blow to the back of the case.
i also plan to instal 4 akasa 92mm fan (that i already have): 3 of them will blow fresh air on the mobo and one will try to keep the HD temp low :D

the internal will be organized as follows, there will be two floors:
the bottom floor will host the psu, the HD and the opticals.
the top floor will host only the mobo, there will surely be windows to show the mobo, and i'm still thinking if showing also the bottom or not...

the 3 fans will blow on the mobo and through the cards and the HSF.
i'll add an outtake grid behind the mobo, and maybe an arctic silencer to cool my gpu and exaust more warm air

the HD will be behind the optical with a fan blowing through them towards the psu.

Holy shit, looking good is an understatement. This is some magnificant craftwork and I'd like to acknowledge you for that. It looks incredible, and I'm now subscribed waiting for the final piecce whenever it may be.

I hope it all works out...A nice fire in a m etal trash bin should warm your garage up nicely...just watch out for the house

looks cool, though I kinda don't like the hex head bolts sticking out on the case.

IMHO, a countersunk head bolt would probably look better.

sorry for posting any update but i've been busy with work in this last weeks, so nothing done to the box :(
but some new pics will be online after the next weekend :)

I'm still thinking about the front panel.
Basically the front if the box will have a hole for the opticals and three round holes for the three 92mm fans.
Also there will be some small hole for cables.

In front of this panel there will be another one that will look like this

in the lower area there are the two opticals on the left and on the right two push buttons (power and reset), two blue leds but maybe more... and some space for usb and firewire ports

This second front panel will hide the intake fans :)
but i'll try to cut some artwork on the higher part of the panel and mask this with some black Meshx

maybe i'll also install some leds between the two panel to have some light effects behind the mesh

But i still have to find the logo to put there :D

Edit: textures are not good... but I'm not good with photoshop...

Small update!
i've done a little work the past week end :)

i've cutted the fan holes in the front panel:

first of three! there's back written in the inside... but it' actually is the front... (changed my mind because the old-back was actually a little better)

you also can see a strange hole, where there will be the front fan hole, i'was trying out the new toy i bought for my dremel :)

here the front hole with the three hole cutted!

next try... doing an atx like back panel with some acrylic,
this is the first try... the acrylic clear and 5mm

all the slots cutted!, and i've ONLY broken the glas once, i'm quite satisfied... not so bad for a first try :)

i'll try to do a better job when i'll cut the real one :D
and the mobo tray too (yep, the tray will also be acrylic)

And... i've ordered and received the first parts of my rig!!

CPU: Opteron 165 CCBWE 0546
VGA: Connect3D X1800XT 512Mb
RAM: OCZ 2x1GB DDR 500 GOLD XTC
HSF: Zalman 9500...

now i've just to finish the case...
and choose a nice mobo!

Looks great!

I personally would have put the PSU above everything, makes for a good exhaust as they get quite hot themselves.

After long waiting... a new update!
i've done somw work in the past months, and now it's time to show the updates
and i've also found a name for my case :)

i've abandoned the idea of an acrylic atx backpanel... and recycled one i've found on an old ATX case.
All the panel have been cutted!
This will be the front of my case

on the bottom right corner there's the place for power and reset swich, some led, fan control
and usb and firewire ports.

The top part will provide some air intake, and now i'll cover it with some nice mesh :)
first step: cutting the mesh

now the mesh can be glued to the front panel

the little metal pieces on the mesh are there for putting some weigth on the mesh without finishing with a book or something glued to the inside of my pc :p

this is the front panel with the mesh

and there's some mesh also on the side panel

here there's also another intake fan hole. this will be also covered with mesh but this one will not be glued :)

and on the backpanel there's some too...

All i have to do now is polishing the aluminium, building the case, and put my rig (the one in the sign) inside :)
This will normally be done before the end of the week

Quite interesting! You should use some annodized spray paint for that neat annoidized aluminum look. Arent you gonna glue the middle of that 9 on?

I'll try using some aluminium polish, if the results is not good then maybe i'll spray it :)

About the middle 9 i'm still wondering... :)
